Joe, if grown men, making multiple millions of dollars, cannot get motivated to play a game they supposedly love, and show a total lack of effort every day, whose fault is that?

What exactly is a manager in baseball there for? I would think besides making a lineup (batting Mienky 2nd,) deciding who to start, and how long they should pitch (Chase Wright getting the chance to throw to 2 too many hitters, Hughes yanked because of a pitch count,) who to bring in from the pen (failed repeated attempts to bring in Farnsworth or Myers situationally,) and motivation of the team when things go wrong (see Cano swinging at anything that isn't thrown backwards, or Posada just totally asleep behind the plate, or Abreu not giving a damn.)

But that's just my opinion of what a manager's job is. Perhaps that's not what you think. I'd truly love to hear your version. Maybe I'm missing some deeper meaning to being a MLB manager. I can sure say that if my version is close to the truth, Joe is doing a terrible job, and deserves the firing.

If a Manager needs to motivate a team then that team is in trouble, at times they need some motivation b/c it's a long season but if he constantly needs to light a fire then the team isn't going to win alot of games.

I would love to see him kick the gatorade bucket. Just once..do anything at all to prove he's even alive.

Yep...you hit the nail on the head and this team needs motivation, whether that's short term or long term it needs a swift kick in the ass. They are playing like garbage and if they continue playing like this they WON'T win a lot of games.

So you think this team isn't in trouble?

The offense predicted to score 1000 runs this year scored exactly none yesterday. Save for Alex, who on this team do you believe is showing any signs of motivation right now?

It's not a matter of being constant. If he has to make a speech once a week, then yeah, we're dead. But what this team needs right now is a kick in the ass. No more of this bullshit that "it's still early, we're struggling, injuries, we'll get there," rhetoric Joe is spouting from memory.

Maybe dallas Green or Stump Merrill are available? they would do that.

We were in a worse spot 2 years ago and as bad a spot last year, he din't kick any buckets he stayed calm which is his style which has worked.

You do realize the yankees have score more runs than any team in baseball, right? We are averaging 6 runs a game which would give us 972 by the end of the year, not bad for a team that needs motivation to hit. We scored 930 last year, 886 in '05, 897 in '04, ... We also scored 965 in '98. We got shut out gainst a pretty good pitcher last night(when he is on and he was on). We have been losng /c of pitching nto offense and our pitching has been injured, as we get healthier we'll be ok. We have the advantage in 2 games this week so we should take 2 of 3, if we don't maybe we are getting into trouble but either way it's still April.

What we need is good pitching, like we had when we won 6 of 9 before this losing streak.
