He lacks touch at times. It was one of the knocks coming out and it was evident at The Combine. A little touch goes a long way. Even the pass to Amaro down the right side could have used a little touch. Would Kellen Winslow have caught that pass? Maybe. But make it easy for your receiver and allow a better receiver a chance to make a play. If the game slows down for him eventually he can improve his touch, hopefully.
Went to the first game on his DraftBreakdown and marked every pass that went over 25 yards in the air. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=258&v=qizi9bmYPok They're at 1:16, 1:26, 2:16, 4:10. It's just ugly. He doesn't drive the ball, doesn't keep the nose of the ball pointing down, it looks like he uses all arm/no lower body and the ball just pops out of his hand instead of exploding out. The throws look like punts.
Want this kid to succeed and think he may be the future of the QB position for us. Camp signs so far look promising as far as his development with the typical struggles expected of someone coming from his college background and lack of exposure to a pro style offense. He seems to say all the right things and I like the positive attitude and work ethic. Obviously has the prototypical QB frame and the arm is there. If he can keep increasing the positives and push the learning curve could we be looking at the new QB2 ? I would love to believe that and somehow I keep thinking that the coaching staff would like to see that too?? I've given up on Geno, way too inconsistent and lacking in leadership skills (at least in my opinion). We'll see but I find it hard to believe that he was drafted as a long term project to jettison him after one year.
I haven't gone to camp, I was talking about him at Baylor and vs the Falcons in the preseason last year. Maybe he's improved his deep ball, we didn't really see it much in the first game.
Unfortunately we didn't. He was getting ready to rip one down field on one play but the pressure got to him too quick.
I'd like to see him get a chance with a better offensive line. It seemed like after his first drive he really started to get pressured quickly, it limited what he was able to attempt downfield.
His first drive looked phenomenal. It's a shame that they didn't score - but that shouldn't be on Bryce. No fucked-up footwork. Tight spirals Perfect ball placement And he even shows the pocket awareness. [God. Sanchez sucked at it.] What's not to like?
^ thought the same thing. At the 3:27 mark: . "..and the offensive tackle, his left tackle gets beat the whole way" when in fact the offensive left tackle does just the opposite and rides his man upfield a full 5 yards behind Petty by the time he releases the ball.
Some of those throws in the first video did have have a floating Fitzpatrick style arc to them. But maybe that's a good thing - with the Jets WRs getting lots of practice coming back to the ball - Petty could be a smooth transition from Fitz.
Just woke up, and I had the best dream. I dreamed we won the Super Bowl by beating the Arizona Cardinals. Maybe it is a sign.
http://screencast.com/t/kyrHmrVh Geno had a way better college career than Petty...but that was then all that matters is now.
On to something? I had dreams about Petty and Hackenberg in green during the season before Petty was drafted. The way I see it, if I dream about a Superbowl victory over the Cardinals it's C.O.N.F.I.R.M.E.D. Thanks for loading it in the chamber.
Thanks to the OP for taking the time to assemble and present such a detailed, informative and compelling post. Petty was considered a multi-year project by the coaches & FO when he was drafted by Jets. All I keep reading about these past 2+ weeks is how he has been progressing (and impressing) in camp. While I never attach too much, if any, real significance to the sports media, the unanimous consensus among reporters covering Petty's camp work has been quite favorable to say the least with more than one saying he has or brings that unmistakable "IT" factor with his presence on and off the field which is something that I felt when watching him play last week and something (in my opinion at least) Geno sorely lacks. Petty certainly possesses all the requisite and desired tools a team looks for in a potential franchise QB and only time will tell whether he can develop his existing talent/skill sets to take him to the level every Jets fan should hope he will. In the meantime, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's game and hope to see further evidence/signs of his progress and development that have been highlighted by reports of his performance in camp the past couple of days.
