The comparison I'm drawing is not between the two players. It's between everybody's reaction to the two players. Gholston went from a top 5 candidate to: he's going to go to the Jets on 6 because they have a need. Upsahw went from a top 10 pick to: he's going to go to the Jets on the 16 because they have a need. That's all I'm saying. A lot of the time a falling player is real value (Aaron Rodgers), sometimes he's a disaster (Brady Quinn). I challenge anybody to figure out whether Upshaw is going to be a major star or an outright bust at this point.
I vote neither. He won't become a star IMO just a solid, above average lunch pail guy who shows up day in and day out and just does his job. He won't bust either unless you consider the fan perspective that Upshaw would come in and develop into a top pass rusher. He won't do that, and Jets fans will hate him for it (and as a result scream bust from the rafters).
I kind of agree with you. In that situation why would the Jets give up something as valuable as the 16 pick for a lunch-pail guy like Bryan Thomas?
looks like you were ahead of the curve with Cox - he is now the top rated tackle and wouldnt be at all surprising to see him go in the top 10.
The simple fact that each guy has seemingly taken a turn in the top ten should tell you all you need to know about the top of this d-tackle class.
