We need a Robinson, Austin, Cruz, Welker type receiver... These guys leave it all on the field and find ways to get open.

What type of receiver is Holmes? He isn't a stretch the filed type like Calvin and Andre Johnson (in either size or skill), but he isn't a powerful receiver that plays like Austin or a quick elusive receiver that plays like Cruz or Welker.

Holmes lead the NFL in YPC I believe when he was with the Steelers.

I think his problem is how we used him, not him himself.

Although to be fair as soon as he left the Steelers Antonio Brown and Wallace both suddenly looked like beasts too, so ima say a huge part of that is their system/qb

Sorry but watching Kareem get torched by Aldon Smith makes me think that he will not be any better than Hunter......

Well, it's not impossible that the Jets could reach a reasonable deal with some other team who might want Holmes, but at this point I have a hard time seeing how that happens.

You make a good point about Holmes not being the perfect fit in a ground and pound offense, but assuming Edwards comes back (which of course is a big assumption), Edwards was good at that, and I think Turner can develop in that direction as well. As you say Kerley looks to be the slot guy. I think there's room in that lineup and even with the Ground and Pound to use Holmes.

I'd like to see the Jets have more of a Ravens type offense. I know that sounds like heresy to some here, since they hardly have a high powered offense, but what I specifically mean is the way they mix in occasionally going down the field with their running game. Holmes could play in that type of offense.

Pitt transformed into a pass first offense the last few years

The Jets are already tilted too much toward aging vets at LB.

He is better than Hunter but we need to set the bar a bit higher than that.

We need someone who can seal the edge, with BT possibly gone, the jets have a need @ olb.

obviously a rookie olb is probable depending on whose available when, but we have very limited cap space, and hes gonna come cheap. Think of him as a jason taylor, without the vagina as a one year stop gap

Mostly because of YAC. He's a huge threat in the open field. He needs someone else to create that for him though.

"seal the edge" - oh man u have been watching too many thursday night games....

forget farrior - the jets should have made him a priority 10 years ago. not now.

the jets HAVE to get younger and faster at LB, period - they have tranformed the D line and now its the LB's turn.

If we draft a guy like richardson in the first, farrier looks a lot more attractive

Our ground defense suffered immensley without thomas, a huge reason was bad olbs who cant seal the edge

Exactly, both are under average players, especially Hunter. And Mackenzie is going to be 33/34 which isnt promising at all.

Cliff Avril - DL - Lions
Free agent LE Cliff Avril said he would not give the Jaguars a hometown discount.
Avril went to Clay High School outside of Jacksonville and the Jags certainly have a need at defensive end. Still, the 25-year-old rising stud pass rusher seems likely to end up with the highest bidder. Bringing back Avril is considered the Lions' No. 1 priority in free agency, but they won't be getting any kind of discount either.

Mario Williams - LB - Texans
SI's Peter King thinks the Texans are "seriously considering" letting Mario Williams walk in free agency.
The Texans' defense remained dominant even after Williams (torn pectoral) was lost for the season in Week 5. Youngsters J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed proved to be more than capable replacements, combining for seven sacks in two playoff games. Although the Texans have publicly stated otherwise, it's possible that breaking the bank for Williams won't be a priority.

they would both be an upgrade but costly, especially williams. plus i am not sure how they would fit the scheme though someone of williams talent should fit in no matter what.

i would rather use the draft for the front seven and save FA for safety and OL.

Im suddenly thinking IF the giants win the sbowl we will do something drastic and expensivee which these would both be.

which could give us drastic flexability in the draft to trade down and completley rebuild our team

prior to the cmen sbowl i thought both were absurd and unrealistic, but now we may be forced to take desperate measures

    This is an EXCELLENT point.

Braylon has ZERO leverage at this point.
