It depends on what blocking scheme a team utilizes and/or what type of defenses they are built to face.Teams that run alot of sweeps/misdirection/traps out of a gap scheme want at least one guard w alot of agility to pull/trap & get out in space. If the team faces alot of 3-4 D’s again you typically want guards w quickness & straight line explosion to reach the Mike LBs in the running game as well as guard against blitzes in the A/B gaps.In a zone scheme all 5 of the OL must be able to reach block & be athletic. If you have a more rigid gap scheme w.o alot of complexity and facing 4 man 2 gapping fronts than yes athleticism isnt as important as size and brute force from guards. Overall though guards have a different skillset than tackles. They need to be alittle quicker out of the blocks, better natural leverage & heavier hands bc things happen much quicker in the phone booth w. Far less space to recover.Tackles need to be better athletes in pass pro ideally w more wingspan for recovery out on the edge.
versatie guy who can get to the QB. Also Patriots wanted him...so def a good re-sign. Sterling is a decent back-up move tight end. Decent depth at TE...Will be iteresting to see if they pass on the position in the draft despite how deep the class is.
That would be awesome if Sterling stays healthy, he was a pretty decent security blanket for Darnold early on. Especially if Herndon gets suspended for a few games.
Copeland is a nice piece. Very happy he’s back. Sterling is one hit away from being scrambled eggs. Hopefully we don’t push him more than Herndon.
This says that he’s getting a check up on his shoulder in April and that will give teams more info. I wonder if this is what CJ referenced last night when he said free agency wasn’t done but he wouldn’t go into specifics.
I'll wait until we go into camp before I start to panic over this ... Rome wasn't built in 50 years...let's give it some time.
Mac is not going to say anything besides that right now anyway, so not really a big deal. Problem is he might be serious. I honestly remember Harrison as a huge upgrade over Long, but that could be because Long had 1 good hand and the coaching staff refused to bench him. Does anyone know how he was ranked across the league? Did he play bad? Sam played his best at the end of the year with Harrison snapping, so I am not sure how bad he was. Many posters seem to think he is not starting quality though.
Decent feet, Ok out of the blocks & good agility but struggles to sustain blocks due to inconistent pad level & not much in the way of a punch. If he can improve his pad level & properly engage defenders perhaps he can be a decent stop gap w. some upside due to his size. That said he's still better suited for a back-up role. This is likely Mac posturing more than anything else.
PFF graded Harrison as the 30th ranked center. PFF's name is mud around here but their track record is better than Mac's.
Truthfully that's not bad for a guy best suited to be a back-up. If he can get to 25th best between Osemele & Winters thats a very good thing.Certainly upgradable but at least not a liability. 30th best center in the NFL should not cause panic in anyone.
I agree. If that's truly what that dumbass thinks, then he should be fired now, and not allowed to run the draft.
