He wouldn't come here to be the starting QB that's why he'd only sign a one or two years deal. If the rest of the league gets stupid someone doesn't offer him a starting job this offseason and the Jets can bring him aboard he'd be the best backup QB in the NFL or the Jets could flip him to another desperate team for a high pick later on down the road like they did with Bridgewater. Either way it's a win-win for the Jets IF they can bring him aboard.
If you could only have 1 of these top players, which would you want? -Trey Flowers -Le'Veon Bell -Matt Paradis -Dante Fowler -Anthony Barr
What's the big deal about him? Why does his name get mentioned so much? I'm looking at his production I don't see much to be impressed about. A combined total of four sacks the past two seasons combined. Only seven career starts. That's not a big money player.
All I am hoping for is Paredis and either Safford or Sitton. If we can upgrade the interior of our OL I will be very happy. We have tried to sign the top OL the last 4 years and they have turned us down. I am hoping we are more attractive with a FQB. Likely, we will have to overpay. Bell, Barr, any mediocre edge rusher, crowder, Humphries would be great but it all begins with upgrading our OL.
Coming off a bad year they might be able to get Ansah at a relative bargain price I think. He has 14 sacks and 12 sacks seasons on his resume and 8 sacks and 7 sacks in two other years. Flowers just won a SB with NE and he has 3-4 experience already. As long as they don't pay crazy money they'd be good signings. They have to do something can't stand pat after 5-11, 5-11, 4-12 seasons. What's the point of bringing in a experienced coaching staff if they're not going to try to compete right away?
Besides Le’Veon, I’m not exicted about anyone in free agency. There are a lot of decent players that teams will way overpay for. The only person on that list that deserves the money they will get in FA is Bell. Period. Edge and O-line needs should be filled in the draft.
My two cents on free agency moves. Seems to me when a new name pops up as a potential candidate, general feedback is in one of two categories: Comment Number 1 - "He is ok but not a game changer." As if we will have many opportunities to get a true " game changer" Short of may be Bell, the rest are safely tucked in with their respective teams or have monster franchise tags. The game changers are hardly out there for the taking, why? Because they are truly just that. Outstanding one of a kind talent that single handed changes the outcome of a game. So if that is what this team wants then go all in with Bell because IMO I can't think of any other true game changer available without having to pay a kings ransom. But that is hardly all this team needs, not by a long shot. Comment Number 2 -" He is good but Mac will probably overpay" . For Pete sake, we really REALLY need a bunch of good players at a number of positions. So the term overpay at this stage is in the eye of the beholder and really driven by what the market mandates. Most all the players we should be targeting must and hopefully will be good young players with potential to grow, or solid starters. Be it C, G, OT, pass rusher and the like. Game changers they are not, but they must significantly improve the talent of this team. I think that many of the names names suggested on this thread reside in the good, young talented category with the potential to be great. Hope we get our fair share. I'm not worried about overpaying, I'm worried about missing out on solid opportunities to improve this team for the long haul. IMHO the best " game changer" acquisition is already in Jets green. We got Williams to replace Kacey R. Now let's get him some more good players to change us into a winner. Likewise in spade for the O, where hopefully we already have our game changer but not much more in a developing Sam Darnold.
Never a bargain price for a pass-rusher on the FA market. It's funny you complain about Leonard Williams and his "hidden production" yet Flowers is also a "hidden production" guy that gets plenty of pressures, but not enough sacks for the amount of pressures he generates off the edge. There are different ways of building a football team. I prefer a Justin Houston as a veteran presence, get a pass-rusher in the draft.
Some more thoughts on prospective FAs for the Jets: Justin Houston was just released by the Chiefs an hour ago. Anthony Barr is the OLB I'd love to see the Jets sign. According to a couple of analysts at NFL.com Flowers may be more of 3-4 DE. If we could sign both, that would be awesome. If the Jets can't sign either, then Za'Darius Smith would be a good compensation prize, but would mean that they'd definitely take an edge rusher in the draft. Bryce Callahan is supposedly more of a zone-type slot CB, whereas Darqueeze Dennard can play either zone or man, so Dennard might be a better pick. Jason Verrett is said to be more of a zone CB too, so I'm not sure that he'll be a fit. Besides, he's only played 5 games over the last 3 years. He's too risky to pay big money to. I'm really hoping that Kevin Johnson is healthy and had a great visit/workout with the Jets yesterday and they've already come to terms on a deal.
If they could sign both Barr & Flowers they could trade back & grab Greedy to sure up the CB position while accumulating some much needed picks.
Bears showing interest in Ingram. If they sign him Howard will either be released or traded. If we don’t get bell or Coleman he’d interest me but try the first two first
Close call but I’d say Flowers only beca What would you think of the Jets re-signing Anderson , signing Barr , and still drafting Bosa or Allen? Overkill or you can never have enough pass rushers ? ( And that’s not to say they won’t be signing/drafting other positions offense or defense - just a hypothetical......) I like to read your opinions ....
