Howard is a better rb than Crowell but I think Crowell has better hands. Either way neither one moves the needle for me. Hopefully we can sign someone and draft someone and we don't have to worry about either. Someone might trade for Howard. I wouldn't. Maybe sign him if released but not trade.
Here’s how I look at it. Howard is a solid rb, we need a rb. Howard is most likely going to be better than anything we can pull out of the draft in the 6th round. So, Howard for a 6th and not having to compete with other teams that may want to sign him seems like a good move . Now,is it a home run move that makes people say wow?no but it’s a solid single and those are ok too.
I think it could be more than a single to use your analogy. He would play for ~$2 million in 2019 on a contract year. He would come cheap and hungry, with something to prove. A single and a stolen base
Your logic makes sense and I'm not opposed to but if we trade back and recoup a 2nd and maybe add another 3rd I might prefer a drafted running back. Might not be better than Howard but would have more upside. Just the way I feel. The next two months will be fun with lots of speculation and rumors.
If we miss Bell would you rather sign Tevin Coleman or trade for Howard. I like Coleman more. Feel he is more versatile and we don't have to give up a draft pick.
CB Trae Waynes and WR Nelson Agholor are rumored to be on the block. Any interest for them? Not sure what rouind draft picks they are going for I'd be interested in both. Moreso Waynes because he is a corner and we need them. I like Agholor but feel we can find someone similar to his skills in the draft or free agency. If both were free agents I'd say sign them. As trade pieces might be tough now. Without a second round pick it'll be tough to trade picks. Maybe after the 5th round we could do it but I think Waynes at minimum a third and Agholor a 4th. Just wondering what others think?
Actually, thinking about it deeper, Coleman and Howard would be a nice tandem. But to answer the question, probably take Coleman and save the pick.
I wouldn't say you are being a smart ass just very literal. Because I like one guy they are letting go doesn't mean I feel differently about the rest. Still think the Steelers have a damn good history of letting guys go at the right time. Because I would gamble on Bell doesn't change that.
and I truly don't "know" shit.....its just my opinion? At some point with all that money, the Jets will gamble or risk on a guy...that's a guy I would risk on. With a second year QB with potential out the ass, a veteran RB that can control and even dominate a game that other teams must prep for...again..just an opinion.
Signing him would be so SOJs. Another plodding, 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust type RB. What they need is a complete RB who can run, catch, block, and score on any possession, but of course they won't get one.
We'll see. But the Jets track record is one of devaluing RBs, which I think is a mistake. Maybe with Gase & Co this will change, but Macc is still buying the groceries and hasn't shown he can recognize and/or be willing to acquire elite "O" talent (with the exception of Sam of course - new trend or fluke?).
Howard and McGuire is about as uninspiring as it gets. He should be nothing more than a desperation option.
in the era of pass first, with Darnold, I completely agree with you. Right NOW...the Jets need a beast. In 2 or 3 years...running back by committee will probably be fine. Again...who knows. I would take that risk on Bell. Hate to...but would do it.
Agree 100%. While Darnold is learning to hopefully become a true FQB, he needs lots of weapons around him, but in a couple of years, assuming he is a FQB, he should be able to carry the offense on his back and make those around him into great players.
Donte Moncrief or Jordan Howard? The lesser of two evils. Still, at their best, definitely invest in Howard over Moncrief if you had to take one.
