I suppose being an Islander fan caused you to come up with this ridiculous opinion. Sorry but New York was electric the entire 2 months of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
As a Yankee fan I loved the '86 world series, because it was another upset for the redsox done by a New York team. I remember watching the '86 world series as a 7 year old in my uncles house in the Bronx. SB42 reminds me alot of the '86 world series. 2 similar scenarios where the majority of fans of 1 New York team was pulling for the other.. As much as I diss the Mets, and occasionally the Giants, all I can say is thank you to the '86 mets, and the '07 Giants for the great memories.
I prepared a pointed response to this, but it's not worth it. I will only point out that "New York was electric the entire 2 months of the Stanley Cup playoffs" is ridiculous, since no one other than hockey fans was paying the slightest bit of attention to the first or second round of the playoffs. Until Messier made his guarantee, there was nothing very special about the playoffs that year, and it looked like it would be just another year the Rangers didn't win the Cup. Obviously after that the team got more attention, but it still did not compare to what other sports get. Game 5 of the 2000 subway series got a 61 share in New York, a number no hockey team in the US can possibly approach, even for a game 7.

How can you leave out the 1980 Islanders???? How many Stanley Cups are won as dramatically as that one - in OT and for a team that had so many post-season disappointments before that year. Plus, it launched a dynasty. I'm not saying top 5 necessarily, but it certainly belongs in the discussion.

I've seen a few people mention the Pats/Rams SB as a bigger upset then the Giants/Pats, but I've seen no good supporting evidence yet.
Well, for one thing the Rams were favored by 14 points, the second largest margin ever in the post-merger Super Bowl (only the 49ers were bigger favorites in Super Bowl XXIX, and they won; the Packers were also 14 point favorites in Super Bowl XXXI, and they also won). The Pats were only favored by 12 last Sunday. In both cases the two teams in the Super Bowl had met earlier in the season; the Rams beat the Pats by 7 in 2001, while the Pats only beat the Giants by 3 in 2007. And, of course, the Pats in Super Bowl XXXVI were viewed as incredibly lucky to be there, since they should have lost to Oakland in the playoffs, but didn't because of the "tuck rule." Not a lot of difference there, which suggests that the two upsets were at least somewhat comparable.
the 1998 Yankees are arguably the greatest baseball team of all time. I cant believe they arent mentioned yet (did i miss it?).
