Tannehill getting drafted ahead of the Jet's #16 pick is a very good thing, it pushes one more player down to us. Where Matt Flynn & Manning go will detemeine if Tannehill get's drafted early.
I agree, I think Manning will go the Skins and Flynn to Miami (or vice versa) so I dont see him going too early.
More Tannenhill news - Ryan Tannehill is a "lock" to be drafted by the middle of the first round, according to Kiper. Good news for the Jets as another player gets pushed down (potentially)
As good as it would be for the Jets I don't really trust much of what Kiper says anymore, he's good with scouting but really overrates players. I think he still has Barron as his #14 prospect, which is absurd.
I think its more along the lines of Kiper has spoken to NFL teams, and somebody said Tannehill is our guy if he's there. which is why he's so confident he goes in that range
It's very possible that one of the teams that misses out on RG3 & Manning will pull the trigger on Tannehill. Washington,Cleveland,Miami & Zona are all options
Washington seems the likely place for Tannehill to land, as Shanahan has apparently become infatuated with him. That said, they have so much cap room, they could afford to draft him and still potentially sign Manning for 2 years so Tannehill can develop and recover from his leg injury.
The more I think about it the likelier it seems that Washington will just take Trent Richardson on the 6. Mike Shanihan likes having that kind of talent in the backfield. It would take a lot of pressure off whoever the Redskin's QB is and there's still a good chance Tannehill is available for a trade up into the late 1st round for them.
I agree that Shanahan tends to fall in love with runners like Richardson so that is a possibility. With that said, the Skins have a much bigger need at QB & I don't think Tannehill gets past Zona.
Arizona has Kevin Kolb. They're not going to draft a QB to replace him yet. They would sign Manning is they thought he was healthy but they just gave Kolb a big deal in the 2011 off-season. They're not going to draft a QB in the 1st round.
I disagree here. Shanahan likes a certin skill set in his QB more than RB's. He needs his QB's to be moblie, able to run fast but also launch the ball with velocity and accuracy on the move. Its more of a rare breed instead of a pure pocket passer or pure running QB like Vick eraly on or Tebow now. RG3 fits what he desires to a tee. For running backs He likes one cut and go runners. He's not high on them being overly fast or brusiers, he simply wants the instict to dectet the hole and go. You can fine plenty of guys who fit his offense at RB in just about any round, but the QB he wants is a lot harder to come by.
So does Sanchez. There might be a deal there after all if Manning picks the Jets. Terrell Davis and Clinton Portis were both very fast. Neither of them were what you'd call bruisers though.
Supposively Kolb is due a large roster bonus in the coming weeks & speculation is that Zona's front office does not want to pay him that figure. He could be released or traded.
Shanahan does like "Cut and go" runners...but I don't think he discounts a player for having elite physical skills. I think he likes guys with good feet who can hit the corner while keeping their shoulders square. It's hard to find a guy to do that who also possesses an elite blend of size/speed. With that said.. I think Richardson could be that type of guy.
Stop with priority picks I understand priority, I understand value, and I also understand that what we need is talent. Holmes was stamped an elite player because he made an elite play in the superbowl. However he only posted one year over 1,000 yards. Holmes ranked among the highest in the NFL for WR in 2 areas. Dropped passes and fumbles. last year. I understand he had a bad year and so we blame it on sanchez. Sanchez is a good, qb who stays out of trouble and does everything youcould ask for a qb to do. he does get hit more then most qb in the NFL. Which give me this mindset. ground and pound makes sense. so sign Braylon back. he will be cheap has history with sanchez and did really well for us. our WR's are fine. we do need another TE. John Carlson (SEA) - Carlson is currently rehabbing a torn labrum that has sidelined him for this entire season and his production dropped in 2010. That makes Carlson a potential sleeper pick-up in this free agent class. Though he's not a dangerous tight end in the mold of a Gates, Graham, or Gronkowski, he could become a sturdy combo-tight end in the more traditional sense. Now OL Offensive guard Chilo Rachal, 26 years old. The 39th overall pick in the 2008 draft, Rachal had the look of a long-term building block when he overtook Tony Wragge for a starting job as a rookie. Rachal seemed to shake off a sophomore slump by grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 run-blocking guard behind only Carl Nicks in 2010 we could sign those 3 and our Offense would be revamped. and ready. on defense we need a few guys and depth. we do need another OLB and ILB and Safty. but thAts about it. resign Jim leonard. and puaha comes back. bart get let go and mauga will start. however we need a good back up about his level and let hem compete. OLB we need however why not use maybin. our inside 3 are stout runstoppers and both mauga and harris are as well. just add maybin into a roation with the ones we have had for the last 3 years. i understand we need more sacks but thats not the reaso we went 8-8. i say use a 4th round pick and grab an OLB who may pan out. now onto safty. As of right now i think we grab barron for our 1st round pick. however if trent richardson falls. i say burn the 2nd round pick and grab him. he will be cheap "because the new contract for rookies, also hes a running back" not to mention a possible future hall of famer couldnt hurt this franchise. i dont think people realize hwo good he is. look at redskins. they know hes good gave up 3 1st round picks for RG3. why? because its worth the 2 good ones and 1 bust for the guy who give you the best odds to be Elite. Richardson is the 4th best player in the draft only because of the QBs infront of him. if he falls we MUST go get him. however i dont think he will. that why i think we should try and get infront of the bucs. by trading witht he browns who now want to trade down since they are out of the RG3 sweepstakes. youtube.com/watch?v=abk3HgvwEeI must watch
We have way too many needs and have burned way too many picks recently trading up. HELL to the NO on trading up in round 1. I love Trent, but I'm not trading up for a runningback. That's no way to run an organization. I'm not usually for RBs in round 1 in general, but Trent is perfect for this offense.
No he does not discount them for it. My pont being his offense would work much better with a mobile accurate passer like RG3 and a back like Doug Martin or Ronnie Hillman later on. As opposed to entering a season with Richardson and a prospect that is more of a pocket passer. None of the current guys are going to get it done in washington. Sanchez is mobile and could work well within Shanahan's system, but we know now he is not going anywhere. Shanahan needs guys with a quick burst to exploit his scheme thats based entirely around zone blocking. He runs lots of strech plays either to move the pocket for the QB or to get the defense moving side to side and create holes with movement. He's not looking for a pile pusher. He's looking for a guy that can quickly recognize the hole and burst through it at top speed. Part of the reason Davis he slipped to the sixth round was his rumored clocked time at around a 4.7. He claims to have run close to 4.4 in private workouts. He is a perfect example of a guy with great vision and acceleration through the hole making a big name for himself in shanahan's system at RB. He's also an example of Mike wanting to fill the RB position in later rounds. Portis did blaze a 4.3 40 but still went in the second round. Helu ran a 4.42 and was a mid round pick by the skins last season. Clocked times and top end speed are nice once past the line, but its the vision to locate the hole and turn up feild in a hurry that Shanahan looks for.
Can't agree with that at all. Slausan was far from the worst lineman this year and he was playing with a serious injury. If DeCastro could play RT, tha would be different. He can't play in space and the Jet guards are both servicable. Cordy would be a better selection since he could play everywhere on the line except Center. Too many really good defenders to pass up and our D is getting old and slow.
Moore did well in pass pro last year, but his run blocking took a huge dip. He's getting older and is in the last year of his contract. If Decastro is there you take him and make him a starter right away, Cut Moore and use that cap space towards resigning some of our other guys to new Deal, say like Dustin Keller who needs a deal after this season.
agree even though i have been "harping" for a LB on day 1 - only dicastro trumps that if he is there at 16. not quite sure about richardson. if we take DD at 16 i am working the phones as soon as we announce cause i am gonna want to get back into the 1st or higher second to get a guy like perry, upshaw, or even branch.
