Strip him of his captaincy, ever since he signed the big deal and got named captain he's turned into a bum, the guy Pittsburgh couldn't wait to get rid of for a 5th rounder AFTER he won them a Super Bowl.
Yeah. Lets cut the only person on the team with a SB Ring and MVP credentials instead of addressing the real problems. More Koolaid Wench!
Honestly don't understand how anyone can defend Holmes here. As a captain, you do not call out your teammates. Is he correct? ABSOLUTELY. That doesn't make it right. What if Michael Vick comes out and says, "Well our linebackers just need to stop the run better." That is not productive, and like here, it just creates a rift in the locker room. Moore's reaction proves that Holmes was way out of line, no matter what you think about the veracity of his comments.
In my opinion, Holmes should be benched for a minimum of a series and preferably the first quarter. We need to send a message to shut this guy up.
When you have a coach that will always hype his team no matter what, you wind up with folks with an overly high opinion of their talents and that's what I think happened with the Jets. Ryan keeps saying they're a SB contender, that every guy on the starting roster is All Pro material, etc. After a time, the players started to believe Rex's hype and now they're getting exposed as not quite as good as Rex says they are. There needed to be some controversy on this if for no other reason than to shake these underachievers out of their Rex induced comfort zone. I suspect that the 2011 Jets really thought all they had to do was roll their helmets out on the field and opponents would simply mail the game in. Holmes at least brought out the discussion that we've been having on this board for the last month. Don't think for a sec that these things haven't been discussed in the lockerroom too. I don't see the togetherness that we saw back in the early days of Rex either and for that, I blame Tanny for his insane quest for star power at the expense of the team. This "Win now" attitude has a darkside that we're seeing all too clearly. Team leaders jettisoned for quick fixes. "Names" brought in that aren't really a good fit or in one case, simply "serviceable" (Plaxico). I think Holmes knows exactly why he's speaking out. Mason took a bullet but no way is Tanny gonna eat Holmes' contract. That being said, Holmes has defacto carte blanche, especially as team captain, to speak out. That he feels the need to make this public speaks volumes as to what goes on behind closed doors. Don't think this is something that developed right after the NE game. I would bet this has been developing for at least a year if not longer. Only Holmes has the stones to speak on it publically.
You call them out if they're not giving effort. Can anyone honestly say they think the O-line's not giving effort? No, they're just below average-bad right now. You don't support your teammates going through a tough stretch by ripping them in the media. The D didn't throw Sanchez under the bus the first year when he had 20 INT's. So what's Holmes doing, all of his whining from the OC calling plays to the line to wanting the ball in his hands more is just all about him, how he can get more numbers. And that isn't how you get your teammates to go to bat for you.
i am amazed by all of the apologists here right now. this guy is a douchebag, its only a matter of time before he fucks himself. the fact that he plays for my team doesnt change what he is. he hasnt played well, he has dropped balls and yet he still feels it necessary to show how big of a douche he is to the media. i can tell you right now i cant stand this guy and he is a cancer.
That's just going to hurt the team on the field. If you want to do anything to punish him, strip him of the captaincy. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to do that.
I think this post is spot on. There are a lot of issues with the Jets that have been percolating for a while, and most of it is higher up the food chain than the players or even the coordinators. Ryan and the Jets FO are NOT doing a good job with this team, and of the two, the FO gets the most blame. The personnel moves they've made are a prescription for failure. They had added players with big names and big egos, not with big games.
lol at anyone who thinks Holmes is speaking out for altruistic reasons. The ONLY reason he's speaking out is because he isn't getting his numbers. If he was getting his numbers, he wouldn't give two s**** about the offensive gameplan or the line. But that's the price we pay for having three diva receivers all on the same team. Last year we had two but they were both on one-year deals looking for long-term money. Now this year we had three, one who got his long-term deal (and the captaincy to boot, a huge Rex mistake), one who was in his last year and really didn't give a **** about what he said, and another one who just can't help himself to the extent that his first act on getting out of prison was to rip Coughlin.
I think its all good, maybe they will play pissed off now. I think the last time I saw that was the playoffs in New England last year.
Problem with that is they were pissed off at the Patriots and the media, they've never been pissed off with each other anywhere close to the way they've been this week. That isn't good for a team that usually thrives on an 'us vs. the world' mentality when 'us' is in the middle of a civil war.
I really think that this week has been enormously overblown, but that's what happens in the NFL when a highly touted team loses three in a row. The Jets are just experiencing what plenty of teams have experienced over the years. Look at the Ravens when they won their Super Bowl. They didn't score a TD for 5 straight weeks, IIRC. There was a lot of BS going on then. Somehow, they managed to overcome it. Time will tell with the Jets this year.
