I support RR 100%. He needs to ditch Sanchez in a bad way.

To me, Rex epitomizes the foundation of the Jets as an organization, and of the AFL itself.

Brash, Confident, Innovative, Anti-Establishment, and challenging to the status quo.

The media is very pro-establishment, and will continue to knock things which are done differently. It was the same in the early AFL days, during the first Super Bowls, in Namath's era, and really throughout Al Davis Raiders tenure.
They tried to chip the teams and the league down, and dismiss it all as laughable, despite fan bases growing in their resolve. It wasn't until the championships of organizations like the Jets, Chiefs and Raiders that the tone began to change.
I think the same will apply to this Rex era Jets, as many parallels of the 60's AFL can still be seen today.

Does Rex have areas he needs to improve on? Absolutely.
However, those characteristics i listed above is exactly why I'm a Jet fan. Coaches like that don't grow on trees, and can be the difference in an organization finally getting over the hump.

Personally, that's a ride i want to be on. If nothing else, it will be challenging, innovative, different and fun.
And can you imagine if Rex actually gets it done?
It would be as legendary and as historic as Namath's 68 Jets. The AFL ghosts once again sticking it to the football establishment.

    The article is correct.

Also, I never understood why people wanted to ship Rex Ryan. After all the jokes and circus, see what you get - with Ryan at helm, you are almost guaranteed to have top 5 defense any season. Isn't that a fantastic starting point? That basically simplifies the problem to getting competent offense, since, with Ryan calling the shot, the defense will be almost always very, very good.

To replace that kind of coaching talent, you'd need a prowess of equal magnitude or better. Good luck with that. (People of the past would have laughed at you anyway; a bird in your hand is better than two in the forest. Keep that in mind.)

Very good article. I like Idzik/Ryan era so far. I want to see more before I make my judgement about Rex's fate. I am against an extension until we see some progress on the field.

I'd only argue that a crazy-ass owner got Rob bounced in Dallas. Dallas was an improving defense even after being plagued with injuries. The head Wackaloon in charge - Jerry Jones - took his frustration out on an easy target -> Rob.

It will come back to bit Jones in the ass.

No question. Jerry Jones is the biggest problem Dallas has right now. We'll see how Rob fares with his new team.

We are already on the ride.
Last year was part of it, and hopefully will have been the rock bottom.

If the ride were to end too early, i'd feel cheated as a fan.

Love this article. Dump all the media a-holes laughing. We'll see who laughs last, even if it isn't till 14 or 15, we WILL get the last laugh. And I love the idea of Rex being here for long time to come, as long as he gets a good O coordinators.

I have no problem with Rex as the coach. In full disclosure, I did ask for his resignation papers once or twice last season when things were really bad. However, in retrospect players love to play for him, he's a defensive genius, I love the swagger (not the guarantees), and he's a motivator. As long as he lets MM run the offense and he runs the D, we've got a pretty good future ahead of us.

I love Rex. Just keep him far away from the offense.

One article and all the Ryan fanatics come out of the woodworks. Go figure. Do you people not remember the constant trash talk that proved to be more then blowing hot air and motivating other teams instead of his own, inability to improve the offense, inability to remove a garbage QB, constant clock management mishaps. This guy is nothing more then a defensive coordinator acting as a head coach imposture. If we had a decent owner, Rex woulda been gone with Tannenbum and we would have a clean slate. The fact that this franchise has had so many mediocre to awful head coaches is just a smokescreen to make people think hes some kind of a great coach....

So, back to the question I posted above: who did you have in mind? What kind of specialty does he offer? Does his prowess match that of Ryan?

(By the way, you can't tag me as one of those 'coming out of the woodworks.' I have been quite vocal about retaining Rex Ryan even during hard times.)

I find the bluster tiresome. But what really turned me last year was Rex's blubbering press conferences. He showed a little of that after the draft, too. But his last confrontation with the sharks went well. Perhaps he has righted himself. I don't want a coach who can be manipulated by the news hounds and turned into a simpering apologist. I know he can coach D, and I feel that he should take a working interest in all phases. I wanted him gone, but he is here. I am a little relieved that we have a non-Schotty, extremely experienced OC here this year. We just have to make the best of it. If Rex can reclaim his dignity, and broaden his horizons, I would not be surprised if Idzik decided to keep him. rex has never had a collar ob him. Idzik has the leash. I think Idzik is sincere when he says he likes him. So I will go along. Idzik makes decisions for the right reasons.

I personally woulda pushed hard to recruit Chip Kelly when he was still available. Even college coaches like Marrone could of been a viable shot. Rex has had his time here already and worn out his welcome. No one will dispute Rexs ability to coach defense at all. Head coaching is a whole different animal.

    Keep Rex

Grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. Is Rex a great coach not really,
but he is a lot better then what is out there. He is still learning as he is going and as long as we have a top 10 defense each year I am sticking with him. Plus we cant keep changing coaches all the time. Go Jets

Didn't we say the same thing with Sean Payton at one time in the past? Giving up that kind of defensive asset has to have a damn good justification - which Chip Kelly can provide precisely NONE of.

Moreover, if Chip Kelly fails as well, (he will, by the way) then what? Cut him again and start with clean slate again? Just imagine why Browns suck year in and year out?

To anybody who was pushing for Eifert at #13, I apologize.

I would rather have Eifert than Richardson.

We will pick a defensive player in the 1st for as long as Rex Ryan is the head coach.
