I'm hearing that Mariota is is very noncommittal about what he thinks about professional football. When asked what he thinks was the best pro game he ever saw, he replied "I don't know, I guess that one game where a player scored a touchdown and then was happy"
Gailey doesn't have a style, he has run multiple types of offenses in his career as an OC. Even so, Gurley does far more than Ivory or any other RB on our roster. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him in a Dolphins uni if he "drops out" of the top 10.
gotta pick an explosive pass rusher to complete the defense (fowler/beasly/ray?). next up is a stud wr (cooper). if we cant get those two, you could probably even trade down and still pick up gurley, and even then i would draft OL and hope to pick up gurley in the early 2nd
You got a link that tells us what Gailey actually wants? Gailey will tailor the offense to the personnel. That's what Gailey does, there is no set offense when it comes to Gailey.
I wouldn't be initially happy with Gurley's selection, not because I dislike Gurley, but because the probability of value is very low. We've all come to appreciate the philosophy that RB isn't a 1st round position. It's a passing league, and teams these days have a strong ability to find a serviceable, if not good/very good, RB for virtually free later in the draft or on the open market via practice squads or UDFAs. Hell, they can even stud RBs in the same manner (i.e. Foster), but that's a low probability proposition. So RBs in the 1st round are a bad idea, but not because the position is not worth it, but because they need to be monsters in order to make using that high of a pick on a position where the "free" options can easily return average or above-average production. If you draft a LT, QB, or DE at 6 who only acheives "above-average" status in the league, you've still done a good job with the pick. So, if the Jets take Gurley at 6, they better be almost certain that he's a pure stud, and will produce as such in the league. Because if he's "just good" (or god forbid worse) then that sort of RB is available around almost every corner in the NFL, and you've totally blown a high-1st rounder. However, if he's truly a stud, then having that level of a RB at a $3 million cap hit is an extreme positive. While RBs in general are fungible, the truly elite ones are still a rare and valuable commodity.
No attack, but I'd take Gurley over Williams every day and twice on Sunday. The Jets have no real need for Williams at the moment. I'd also take Cooper over Williams. Otherwise, I agree.
Chris Mortensen just now: "I'm interested you put Gurley at 6 because I've talked to executives in the last week that feel he's the 2nd best player in the draft, and the best running back to enter the draft since Adrian Peterson."
I can see the momentum associated with Gurley. I watched him closely in college.... I'm a Georgia-hater but that kid was tremendous. He's a workhorse, do it all RB in an era where there are few workhorse do-it-all RBs left. Not saying these Jets should take him at 6, just saying I get it why the Mortensens and McShays of the world are saying what they are saying
Todd and Mel are always horrible. Every year they aim to get one pick of 32 correct but they make their money by being fun to watch and listen to, which they are. But this.... This is just absurd, what kind of moron believes a running back who just tore his ACL is going to get drafted at pick #6. No one picks healthy running backs in the first 32 anymore but he thinks this is going to happen? Dumbest thing I've ever seen.
It may be but more and more draftniks have now made Gurley a top 10 pick..so look at who is picking in the top 10 and the Jets need for a back are right at the top of the list.
Just one "expert" feeding off another. If we are linked to Gurley we can trade down. Makes no sense at #6.
Gurleys agency is paying them to say he'll go this early. These guys get paid well to lie about draft placement just ask Mel Kiper
he might well be the best PLAYER available at that point but he certainly wouldn't offer the best value.
I cant agree with this. I think pass rusher because of how strong we are in other areas, is not as critical a need as QB, OL, RB even WR if Cooper is there, plus they are really risky picks especially this group.
That makes no sense. BPA at the spot you are backing is always the best value, plus it is a team need arguably higher than OLB at this point.
Trade down with who exactly? And for what? There is nobody in this draft worth trading up to at six except one of two QBs and you can bet your bottom dollar that if one of them is still there at six the Jets will take him.
