yeah i'm baffled why they aren't announcing Maccagnan. only thing i can think of, is maybe they want to create a perception of GM and HC being peers, rather than a linear reporting structure. even still, i'd announce him already..
So if we get Bowles we might get a former Bills HC to be our OC. And I thought our AFC East connection was to NEP. You know the story: we cut players and they sign them and visa versa. Will the Bills trolls come out of the woodwork again this time to warn us about Gailey. They have enough of their own problems with the I've gotta be me guy.
Come on... aren't you the guy who was mad Rex didn't wear Jets clothes to his firing? I think it makes perfect sense that they want to announce the GM and coach combo together if they feel like they are going to lock a deal up with Bowles tonight.
He spent one season in KC with all-star QBs: Tyler Thigpen, Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard sharing time. That's enough for you to judge though apparently
But you can label him a good OC by looking at his time with the 2000 and 2001 Dolphins where he had the incomparable Jay Feidler? So much so that you can rag on someone who pointed out how bad the offenses were then run when they respond to you stating the numbers are terrible?
Something tells me if Rex had an idea that he'd end up as HC in Buffalo that he'd have worn a Bills cap to his firing...
Is this in English? Were almost reaching 15 years since those Miami days.. I don't remember if they were well constructed, creative offenses or not but anyway they had back to back 11-5 seasons and finished 16th and 8th in ppg so I imagine they weren't all that terrible. At least not bad enough that I would consider pulling an offer from a respectable candidate - or cry about it as a fan. He's not Bill Walsh but he's a respectable coordinator. I'd trust him more than daddy's boy kyle shanahan..
So let's recap here... We can't draw anything from his days in KC, his days in Miami were too long ago to remember if they were good enough... but he's a good/creative OC? Is this right?
So we should reach back even further to the 96 Steelers? Or maybe you're suggesting we take his Georgia Tech days into consideration, but I don't think anyone would actually suggest that.
As much as it hurts to say.. I agree with Colin Cowherd on Bowles. He isn't like Quinn (under Carrol, who is a Defense guy) in that he is in charge of a defense and is doing more, with less, than Quinn - objectively. I'm not a fan of Chan Gailey as OC - why can't we get a Trestman - I want an innovative offensive mind (I get the Chicago disaster...)
I'd have no problem with Todd Bowles. He is held in high regard around the leauge. Most important, available now. I hope they get this done, not wait holding the bag and have to settle for some second rate retread.
