This is something I noticed with the refs that irked me today......their spots were freaking brutal. I think by and large that this game was called poorly for both. So I am not going to complain there. My big complaint was the spotting of the ball favored the Steelers at least 5-6 times maybe more. I will download the game torrent and give an account of this right or wrong. Meaning if I am wrong I will admit it. I have never seen as poor a job spotting the football as I did today. Did anyone else notice that?
Not surprising. They seem to make excuses as a whole. Actually our fan base does that as well. also its favor not favour. damn phantoum u's.
I still want the .GIF of the two players from the Steelers jump the snap, take 2 steps back off the line of scrimmage and no flags were thrown.
If those defensive holds are called, it's an automatic first down. Yardage isn't the only factor. If Lowery gets called for his interference on Sanders running for the end zone, it's first and short with a few cracks at the end zone. If the guy mugging Sanders in the end zone on the final play gets called for it, the Steelers get another shot at the end zone. Now that I've mentioned that, if the Steelers don't call a stupid shotgun draw in their own end zone and blow the blocking assignment, maybe they do something on that drive to tie or win the game. If the Steelers special teams didn't suck the big weenie in this one, it might be a different story. The Steelers did a better job possessing the ball and did more on offense. They also did a fairly solid job on defense as well. But it's a team game with three facets, and the Steelers Special teams weren't up to the task, and the Steelers take the loss. At least it's to a good team I respect.
If's? If the refs called the holds on your O-Line it wouldn't even be an issue....they were obvious and blatant... If you had to punt and not given free 1st down, you don't score 7. Both our OC's suck balls, and the NFL Officials absolutely suck right now. I think we'll agree on that. Fact is we overcame a tough environment, rough conditions, injured and hobbled and gutted one out. (You gave us credit) You wanna say we got away w/ IC on the final play(s), fine, I'm not gonna argue but if that's the case then you gotta see the ridiculous holds on the o-line, dismissing that is just too biased.....hopefully our next matchup doesn't hinge on a call made or not made.
I'm already on record in the thread for saying the officiating sucked for both sides. I'm also on record as saying if the Steelers special teams were up to par for this one, I feel the Steelers would have won. It was a good game. I hope this pushes the Jets into a good playoff run that ends with an AFC Championship game loss in Pittsburgh ;-)
When the other team is getting phantom first downs I think Cromartie has the right to tug on a bit of jersey.
THANK YOU!!!!!!! Seriously, there is not tugging IF the goddamn ball is spotted even remotely correctly.
I thought the refs were terrible for both teams, I didn't see a lot of holding by the Steelers. Nothing even close to what happens when you play NE. I'm sticking with my philosophy that the league is going to allow Ben to take a beating for "tarnishing" their image but the Jets couldn't get close today, that's on us not the refs. I thought the Steelers were on the short end of the stick on a few calls starting with the "helmet to helmet" on Edwards. The helmets never made contact even though the Steeler DB left his feet he hit Edwards in the sternum. Lowery def should have been called for defensive holding and we probably should have been called for the same on the last play although the Steeler player was also grabbing and holding which is probably why it wasn't called. You wanna talk about bad officiating? The Giants were handed a TD and very nearly the division because of an absolute garbage call and the Colts had quite a few calls favor them today.
It's probably cause there's a league wide conspiracy to fuck over the Jets and make all of you specifically miserable. Yes I'm just being an asshole but I'm also serious.
This is nothing new, I remember in 04 when the Jets faced the Steelers twice that season once in the season and once in the playoffs. Being the least penalized team in football for 3 years staight under Herm Edwards, the Jets racked up over a 100 yds in the first game alone. I was fucking disgusted how horrible the refs called the game.
Here is the issue, by rule it was the correct call but Clark is on the ground and Edwards who is well over 6 feet is in the air. If Clark hits him low while he is in the air it's more likely he injures Edwards based on how high he was in the air and where he would have had to hit him. I felt it would have been a call that would have been better not being made because Clark really didn't have much choice in where or how he hit him. The helmet's never made contact and he hit him squarely in the sternum. I would have not been in the least bit upset if they didn't call anything there.
i thought there were bad calls both ways... cromartie got away with grabbing onto wallace - but at the same time, wallace probably should've adjusted instead of just running while being held onto... the steelers got away with some spots and holds (i still remember seeing scott get tackled by an offensive lineman). it's the nature of the game... actually, imho, the clark hit looked fine to me; but i'm not up to date on the whole 'launching' thing....
Holy shit, those spots were driving me nuts. I hope the league addresses that somehow, the team was even playing as if it were 2nd and 1 and it was really 1st and 10. How do they just hand out free yards? That Slauson hold was BS-
Speaking of yesterday's officiating, what was with all the flying flags that were then retracted with no foul called? It happened three or four times in the first half alone.
