Parcells didn't hold Vinny back, Glenn Foley was considered the "future" franchise guy, so he was the starter. Vinny was only brought in as a veteran insurance policy because Belichick knew and liked him from their Cleveland days. Foley even had a great opening game, but when he got hurt, Vinny came in, played better, and we kept winning. Parcells wasn't afraid to make the change for good, that's when the team took off. It's hard to say right now because the 98 team really took off from this point on. They were 6-4 after 10 games and then won out. Until the 2008 team does the same or similar, I'd have to go with the 1998 team.
Belichick DC and Parcells coach - '98 team beats '08 hands down Take away the 50 mph winds in the AFC championship game at Denver and we probably are only looking at 10 years since our last SB victory vs. 40.
I would take the 2002 team over the 2008 one. The '98 team was better than '02, but it's close. I'm talking about the team at the end of the season, not the 1-4 start.
The '02 team, like the '06 team, went on an improbable run where they played far above their ability. I don't think we've even seen the full potential of this year's team.
I just pray they reach it when the playoffs hit. Then they can run with the teams at the very top of the league.
98 Jets were 6-4 after 10 games and we didn't really know how good they were at this point in the season. 08 Jets are 7-3 and I don't think we have seen the best of them yet. I think we have more talent on the team this year but the 98 team had a better coaching staff, really one of the best CS ever assembled. We'll see how this team comes together the rest of the way but I would always take a Brett Favre led team over a Vinny T led team.
What the fuck? They played really well for an extended period of time. Thus, they were a team that was able to play really well. That's not hard. It really doesn't matter what you think the team can do, because your answer to this question should reflect what the team has actually done.
No thought to process what so ever! Vinny and the Jets were something special that year . I have still never experienced the feeling of absolute safety when the jets were taking the field as I did that year. This year Farve has made me worry about the prayer balls he was chucking up there earlier. (Hasn't dine it in two games thus far). If we handle Tennessee then I will begin to breath easier and look forward to the showdown with the dolphins in the meadowlands. :jets:
I never worried about Vinny throwing picks that year. It was like that reputation didn't come with him to the Jets. It showed up two years later when Parcells and Keyshawn were gone.
That team was damn good, alot better than the 9-7 record. it was broken up a bit after the season but it was a damn good team- MUCH better than 2006. As well as favre played the other night that's how Vinny played the entire season(actually even better). There's just no comparison at QB from '98 to this year.
I just voted for the '08 team. Now how do you feel about it, anybody changing their votes?:grin::grin::grin::grin:
I already voted for the 2008 team. Anyone who thinks the 1998 Jets team was better should remember that bad call in Seattle. Also, the AFC East is a touch division this year. And... Bret Favre. Kris Jenkins. Etc.
Who cares about the bad call against Seattle? The AFC East had FOUR playoff teams in 1998. The '08 team is catching up but they still trail.
