I was anti Bell due to concerns about his off the field concerns at the price he's demanding but this roster is so lacking in talent that I think Mac should go all in on Bell. He wants a heavily front loaded deal which is fine.
There's a very real chance 2021 sees a lockout, there's a new CBA coming , so cap space will increase much more.
Worse case, he's cut after the big guaranteed money before Darnold's money is due. Best case he plays like he has in the past and we become a legitimate playoff contender while helping Darnold develop. It's unfortunate that we once again have a ton of money to spend in a weak free agency year. There's not a free agent on the market who makes close to the impact that Bell does.

I respectfully disagree. To begin with, I'd rather sign Mark Ingram than Tevin Coleman, and Ingram is more than just a complimentary back. He could be a solid starter. He has some power and excels at scoring in the Red Zone. I also think there are more than enough RBs in the draft that the Jets wouldn't have to pray that the draft falls their way. In the 3rd-6th rounds, RBs like Benny Snell who has been a good starting RB and is a pretty good blocker and also has power, Myles Gaskin who has been a very good starter, Tony Pollard who is a playmaker and great return man, Elijah Holyfield, Jordan Scarlett, Ryquell Armstead, and quite a few others will be available.

Agree on Ingram. We want a stop gap guy, here is a dude who has split carries and is 29 years old. he's looking for some cash and to play. We can do both and quickly replace him.

A huge no thanks on Ingram. The definition of fools gold. He’s played in an elite offense almost his entire career and his best year came when he was splitting carries with one of the best RBs in the league. He’ll never be a lead guy and we don’t have anyone good enough to complement him, or should I say for him to complement. Unless we are signing Coleman and Ingram which would be a lot of money and not smart... no thanks. And at age 29, if we do end up with him, there better not be any more than 2 years before we have an out.

I don’t want him either, but the point they are making is he is the type of guy you can pair with a drafted RB. Not someone to be the lead back.

It certainly wouldn’t be very sexy, but assuming they found a good back in the draft it could work very nicely for a year or 2.

I still prefer Coleman. He is the middle ground. Not going to be paid like a top 5 RB, isn’t an unknown commodity, lacks wear on his tires, etc, etc.

    Give me Coleman!

    Bell
    1) Top Elite RB
    2) Wants unbelievable amount of $$$
    3) Major concerns about desire/attitude

I will definitely pass (allocate $$ to O-line), go with Coleman and a "banger-type back" + McGuire, Cannon.....

He’s 29, we would have to strike gold in the third round at best to really maximize his talent. I mean you could definitely do worse but he is far down on my list.

I absolutely prefer Coleman to Ingram. But obviously Bell is first by a mile.

    Ah good call.

    Your page-ly reminder:

We can sign Bell to a contract that pays him what he wants and still sign the best offensive lineman and pass rushers available. They are not mutually exclusive.

I would add signing Bell also makes the Jets a more attractive destination for other free agents.

Zero interest in Ingram. Zero years. That ship has passed.

I feel like I have to be mixing you up with someone... but weren't you steadfastly against signing Bell? If that was you... welcome to the right side of history!

    I have him maybe 5th:

    Bell
    Coleman
    Yeldon
    Ajayi
    Ingram

If we strike out on Coleman Bell and to a lesser extent Yeldon I will be very pissed.

I was but have changed my mind.
As far as Ajayi, given his prior history with Gase, I don't he will be in consideration .

If we are missing out on those guys then we better be trading for someone. Bell is elite, Coleman is third tier, Yeldon is a pass catcher at best, but a good one who will come cheap and is still young. There's gotta be a better option if you lose out the top two.

    Good point, and I agree.

Didn't think of that... I forgot most players hate Adam Gase. Good recruiting tool.

If we can't get Bell or Coleman, then we need to go ahead and just draft someone. Yeldon and Ajayi I found to be a little underwhelming.

I think Yeldon would actually be a great complement to Coleman. Not ready to sink that kinda money into the position unless we are getting a star though.
