Why are we comparing Sanchez to Rodgers (one of the greatest qb seasons of all time) knowing full well that Sanchez is not Rodgers. Both quarterbacks are very good and have very good receiving cores. I don't see why we are comparing Sanchez to them though.
He took some straight up shots. Babin, Ngata, Miller where a normal quarterback gets a roughing the passer call and would be out of the game. Yea they had more sacks but I don't think they took any hits like Sanchez did.
I agree with you that the talk of Sanchez to toughen up is ludicrous as he has a lot of faults but lack of thoughness is not one of them. On the other hand, NFL is full of though QBs so that is not a differentiator. Look at stafford winning with a ****Ed collarbone, or ben last night with his ankle etc etc.
Ben, I didn't have exact count but he suffered a lot of big hits - and had to play through injury today (high ankle sprain.) As for Rodgers, he was sacked 1 more time than Sanchez this season during the regular season. (41, I think.)
I am not talking about how many hard hits he took, I am talking about wether or not he is any good. My point is simple, Radgers and Big Ben get sacked, why do they win?
Did Rodgers not win in his 3rd year as the starter, what about Ben? Ben has who other than Mike Wallace? Rodgers had Jennings and an old Driver last year and what did he do?
It's still a receiving corps that is without a #1 receiver. I like Braylon more than I do Holmes, but he's just another complimentary receiver. He's not a #1 receiver in this league either. Holmes, Cotchery and Edwards does not make for a good receiving corps. Two secondary receivers and a possession receiver. Neither has more than 1 good season to their belt, and neither has been consistent enough to warrant a #1 position. That's what you should expect when you bring in only second-rate receivers. Quality receivers does not guarantee quality QB play(it certainly increases the odds), but a below average corps will guarantee bad QB play. 32 TDs is nothing to scoff about considering what he's working with. Holmes isn't a bad player, he's just a bad #1 receiver. He's not made for that role, and has done nothing to prove he's capable of being a top flight receiver. He's good for the #2/slot role, but he's not capable of carrying a receiving corps. It was a bad decision. I thought so at the time, and obviously still hold that same opinion. Terrible logic, btw. I'm pretty sure I meant 32 TDs. This isn't about Sanchez as it is about our offense. Whether we have Sanchez back there or McElroy or any QB we bring in, that QB is going to need receivers. That QB is not going to light the world on fire with second-rate receivers and an overall average/below average receiving corps. It's unrealistic, completely against the odds, and just plain irrational. I'm only defending Sanchez because he's our current QB and is not the problem on our offense. I do see potential and I think we should give him a fair shake before letting him go, but I am in no way married to him, and I don't think the FO should be either. Here's the thing - If we're going to get production out of this offense, changing QBs is not the answer. We know our QB is capable of 30+ TDs with average weapons and is a very good playoff performer in a league that is filled with playoff disasters at the QB position. Sanchez, not the problem. The problem is that we all want this offense to work, but it's not getting the job done. I think of it as car with mechanical problems. You fix the mechanical problems, you have a fully functional car in good working condition. The Receiving is the biggest engine failure. When I look at the other good cars around the league, I see solid Receiving parts. Packers, Saints, Patriots, Lions, Falcons, Panthers, Chargers, etc.. When I look at ours, I see broken pieces that need immediate replacement with better ones. When I look at the other QBs around the league, I don't see a single one that's driving a car with broken Receiving pieces. Then I look at past QBs who drove a nice car with great Receiving parts, only to completely crash and burn when said Receiving parts were lost. We're already crashing and burning with our broken Receiving parts, so I think it's about time for replacement, and not with the same junk yard bull shit we've been bringing in to patch things up. We need premium parts ordered directly from the dealer.
The packers went 10-6 last year and got hot at the right time. They were a 6 seed like us with a worse record last year. Ben also has had a top 5 run AND pass defense every year he has played. He has played on a team that was able to go 3-1 with Charlie Batch. They were handed a super bowl in 06 and he had Hines Ward and Randle El that year. They most he contributed in that playoff run was tackling the Colts DB as he tried to return Bettis' fumble. You can't criticize Sanchez supporters for bringing up the other QBS in the league who struggled after 3 years and say it is not the case usually and then go around and bring up 3rd year QBS who win because it is not the case usually. And wasn't Rodgers in his 5th or 6th year because he sat for a while? Big difference.
From one clown to, another: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/10272/sanchez-feat-looking-more-impressive By Rich Cimini Looking at the first weekend of the playoffs from a Jets perspective: 1. Whenever Rex Ryan defends Mark Sanchez, he invariably mentions his four road playoff victories -- tied for the NFL record with four other quarterbacks. Sometimes he sounds like a broken record, but listen up: Those down on Sanchez after his poor finish should appreciate that mark because, as we saw in the first round of the playoffs, road victories are hard to come by. In fact, there were none over the weekend, as the home teams won all four games.
Didnt I say when Rodgers was in his 3rd year as a starter? Randle El and Ward, thats the ebst you can do? Didnt Mark have a top 3 D his first 2 years?
Braylon may not be a legitimate #1 receiver but he's a Receiver that can AT LEAST get open when he runs his routes and get separation. Plus, he's a big target for Sanchez to not have to be so accurate when throwing to him. Also, his effect on the rest of the offense should not be understated. His mere presence actually forces opposing Secondaries to not focus solely on Primadonna-Man(Holmes) and that opened things up for him and guys like Keller and Cotch underneath. And that's not even bringing into account his run-blocking that spells the difference between a 2nd & 8 and a 2nd & 4.
Sanchez' young hero worshipers do not understand anything but how to attack other QBs so their hero looks great. Its too bad they are that way. They have lost sight of the fact that LOYALTY should be to the team winning a Super Bowl and not an individual player.
I am saying that sitting for 2-3 years and then starting is a big difference than coming into the league. Big Ben was a better comparison since he started as a rookie. Sanchez had Braylon and J Co so I would say the WR position is closer than you think. This was 6 years ago Ward and Randle El, not current. 2011 the wide receivers were better. The steelers were a 6 seed that year and got hot and really luck. Funnily enough after their 11-5 year winning the super bowl, they went 8-8 the next year. Obviously the SB win absolves them but same drop we had as a 6 seed the year before at 11-5. Let's look at Big Ben's run of luck though. First game Carson Palmer is hurt for the Bengals very early on. Jon Kitna then has to take over. Not necessarily beating a strong team there. Next game Vanderjagt misses the first field of the year in the RCA dome after Nick Harper who was stabbed by his wife in the leg earlier in the week picked up the fumble. Championship game, defense forced 4 turnovers in the first half. Then we all know about the SB and that officiating. Yes he won but can you credit Big Ben for winning the whole thing, and then say Sanchez didn't win his playoff games? It is clearly a team effort that won and we were a few lucky plays for also playing for a super bowl in Sanchez's second year. Now I'm not saying if Sanchez is going to be a good QB. But to compare him to Big Ben and Rodgers saying they won a super bowl, and not to credit sanchez for winning his playoff games is very one sided. The defense helped a lot for Big Ben as shown and helped Sanchez also. As stated before Rodgers had sat for 2-3 years making it very difficult to compare him and Sanchez in their 3rd year starting
I guess 3rd stringer tj Yates is now a "franchise qb" for leading the texans to playoff victory behind a stout Texan defense and Arian foster rushing for 150 and 2tds..... Just like the great sanchise.....
