McPhee is 6'3, 275. Anderson is 6'1, 231. Coples is 6'6, 290. He's probably the biggest LB in the league.
My main issue with Coples is that he has no motor...he disappears on most plays and looks like he's half trying on many others. He's living up to the label placed on him coming out of college...very Gholston like. I don't think he'll be in the NFL too much longer...like Gholston
I feel like Coples could be a beast but not on this team... We have so much talent on the D-Line, there is just no room for him.
When he plays DE and his hand is in the dirt he is much more effective weapon for the defense. Over the last couple of seasons, I thought Coples was going to finally emerge, because when he hits people he usually does so in devastating fashion...the clothes line tackles and Jake Locker come to mind (punishing hits). He also famously held the edge against New Orleans two seasons ago to put the game to bed. But watching Coples on Sunday...he looks like he got fatter and/or slower...no impact plays, no pressure...just a non factor in the game. I thought before Coples would be a great defender for a team like the Steelers...but I am starting to wonder how much this guy regressed from 2014 to this season. He looks like he got a lot worse.
you would not get squat for coples. Move him to DE and play him with williams, richardson, and wilkerson. Bench snacks next game v. Pats--jets need a pass rush.
Never been a fan of lazy people and even more disgusted with lazy players (since they have such amazing god given talent) Typical
Coples isn't anywhere near Vernon Gholston. Gholston was in a league of his own when it came to worthlessness.
They're both listed at 6'3 - 270 according to NFL.com and ChicagoBears.com. They're barely bigger than Mauldin or Pace, two legit 3-4 OLB's (if Pace wasn't 250 years old). Coples is just a different animal. Just imagine JJ Watt playing linebacker, that's what we're doing with Coples. And Coples is even bigger than Watt. One inch taller and 1 pound heavier. And Watt is a pure lineman, playing DE and DT. Yet we're playing Coples at LB. It's really mind boggling.
One major issue with Coples is his inability/ refusal to "play low". Everything he does is done standing straight up. His hits are always above the waist. I don't know if it's ability or he doesn't want to put forth the effot, but he does not seem willing to hit the ground. This type of technique has negated some of his own tremendous due to the resulting penalties for hitting too high. Has he ever mad an ankle tackle or one at the knees?
That sounds like flexibility issues. The limber man usually gets lower, you have to bend your legs and knees to get low...especially at 6'3" 270lbs. I do notice Coples always coming in high, standing up straight/tall. "Lower man wins"
Coples was around 270lbs heading into the 2014 season. unless he beefed back up, are you guys sure the 290lb number going around here is actually current? i think that number might be a couple of years dated at this point. weight aside, i don't think he's a great fit in any system outside of situational pass rushing, or matchup specific game planning. i don't expect he'll still be with the team next season.
They update these numbers in camp each year so they're most likely correct. Kellen Davis is 270, JJ Watt is 289, Calais Campbell is 300. 290 for Coples seems accurate.
i don't think they typically update. for instance, Snacks is still listed at 350, even tho he dropped a good amt of weight this offseason. that's a similar scenario to Coples these last couple years, who is still listed at 290, despite the reports suggesting he's lost 20lbs since entering the league. http://www.ganggreennation.com/2014/5/27/5756488/quinton-coples-slims-down http://nypost.com/2014/07/25/weight-loss-could-help-jets-coples-live-up-to-billing/ conversely, a guy like Dalton Freeman's listed college weight of 290 never rose after two offseasons in the weight room. i remember being surprised at seeing his listed weight remain 290, as he definitely appeared heavier this year. another example.... has Vince Wilfork ever been listed heavier than his combine weight of 325?
why? I think our d-line is here to stay. Only free agent would be snacks...and i think he loves it here.. we gave him the chance as an undrafted guy. He may return the favor and give us a discount.. Plus u chop a guy like Cro to keep snacks. Cro can go i'd rather have snacks any day. He's younger, cheaper (by default of position market), and has a bigger impact. Mo will get a long term extension. No questions asked no debate necessary. Sheldon's stupidity played right in our favor because it makes Mo an obvious lock now and gives us the leverage of making Sheldon play that whole rookie deal out.. which there is 2 years left plus team option. No way he's getting an early extension after the shit he pulled. so he's here for 3 more years for cheap, then maybe a franchise tag after that. Leonard Williams is under rookie deal for 4 years plus a team 5th year option. By the time he gets an extension Mo will be in his 30's, probably beginning to slow down.. ready to get his next deal which will hopefully be very reasonable for both sides. Long Story short we should have all 4 of them for at LEAST 2-3 more years.. we'll have 3 of them for sure for 5 years. Long as were not paying a franchise QB skys the limit.
19 snaps vs Oakland, - on the field for his typical 30% of the game. Hopefully, we can move him by Wednesday trade deadline for some type of draft pick.
