I just can't go with starting Fitz again. It's like you have a choice between two cars, one is a stalling Toyota Corolla, and the other is the same kind but you haven't check the motor yet. At least you don't have to pay 12 million for the second one though.

Blind faith in a shitty QB, that's all I see from this. Jets owe it to themselves to see what the kid can do. Not only do the Jets have issues developing QBs, they have issues instilling any confidence in their QBs. It's a poor environment, they drafted this guy and they have 0 faith in him to do anything.

The Jets are the NFL Franchise where QB's go to die.. The reality is, it will NEVER be time to start Petty in the opinion of this FO/CS. I really hope they trade the kid before they ruin him.

Cman, that is clearly the case with Bowles, but we have no evidence that is the case with Mac. I hope we don't trade Petty. At the very least, I think he's going to be a topnotch backup QB for us, but I think there's an extremely good chance that he will be our starter next season.

Nah, he will rot here because every young player seems to. If they didn't give Fitzpatrick that money, then we would've seen Petty at some point this season especially since the reps would've been available. At the end of the day both the CS / FO made the wrong decision. Can't blame one without the other.

Petty will start against the Colts unless the Jets somehow beat the Rams AND Patriots. The jets are in win out or die mode. There is no reason to rush into Petty. The Jets will have time to evaluate him. I'd rather have Mangold and Clady back in the rotation before bringing in Petty. Put him behind a line like we have now and it could be a disaster for his development. If he suffers a big injury, he won't be back until mid season next year and that would be terrible for the Jets QB situation.

Bowles is leaving the door open for Petty to start. If he likes the way Petty looks in practice he might just start him this week. I hope Petty gets a chance and his shoulder isn't hamburger.

The 6 seed has 2 losses and a head to head tiebreaker over us. Winning out probably won't even be enough.

I really don't think he should be starting behind a terrible oline. The rams are a good defensive team. I would hate to see Petty get hurt because Bowles has no clue on how to be a HC.

Clady won't be back. He was placed on IR today with a shoulder injury. So does that mean you now think they should wait until next season to start Petty. I'd prefer they have a better OL in place as well. I don't want to get him hurt/killed, but they have to find out what they have in him. If ASJ is healthy he needs to be in there on every down at Ijalana's left shoulder or if the D's best pass rusher moves to the other side

    No OL?
Start Hack, he is used to no protection from his days at Penn.

I think you're joking, at least I hope so; otherwise, that would pretty much guarantee that Hack would be a bust and wasted pick since he didn't exactly thrive under those circumstances.

The troubling part is that this is occurring in back to back regimes with what we had hoped would be completely different mindsets. It's disgusting. Do they not see the success around the league of young quarterbacks over the past five or so years? It's like they think every young quarterback will turn into Geno Smith in his rookie year.

This is a good game to start Petty for the first time. Home game vs the 3-5 Rams with a turnover prone quarterback (Keenum) of their own, which could lead to great starting field position for the Jets on offense.. The Rams do have a good d-line, but I would expect Petty to get the ball out quickly when the pocket is collapsing or the blitz is coming by hitting his checkdown receiver. As it stands, we probably won't see Petty. It looks like Fitzpatrick will start.

Exactly, and the Jets gave Petty that redshirt year to figure it out. Teams like the Patriots or Cowboys, they tailor the offense around the skill-set of their players starting with the QB. Petty has a good skill-set. Can throw the ball deep, is athletic, strong in the pocket ... it's crazy not to think Gailey can't game-plan around a QB that has talent. Jets need to just stop being scared and figure it out. I won't be mad and I won't purchase a billboard, hell it shouldn't even matter what I say. Jets drafted the guy. Figure it out. You had a year with the guy, you should know what he does best.

I hope Bowles and Gailey realize that things will get ugly at MetLife pretty fast if Fitz comes out and plays like Fitz. The majority of the Fanbase doesn't want Fitz back out there anyway and if by some chance Fitz gets blasted while scrambling on a bad knee, it wouldn't surprise me to hear some cheering if they cart him off the field.

I would say more than a few fans are hoping for a "Mo Lewis" moment. It may more resemble a road game than a home game.

Good Franchises do what you're suggesting. Coaching staffs that know how to groom young players do that. We're the Jets. We don't roll that way. If there's a good or bad way to do something, we usually pick the latter. Its how things have been done for the last 48 years.

Maybe the FO/CS is worried that FitzTragic will throw yet another public hissy fit if he isn't starting this week.

We are truly cursed. IDK if it's because Woody listens to fans too much, or they are scared of failure. Hell, we've been failing for decades now.
