If you go on overthecap.com, you will see he is cuttable after this year and I imagine he will be cut.
I'm not so sure Wilk feels that he has a future here. Between the bad way Richardson was treated before the trade, Harrison being let go and the flogging he's getting from the media and the fans, the best thing for Wilk might be a change of scenery. Now if that means he gets cut, it will probably be a win/win for both parties involved. Wilk will catch on with another team and with a fresh start, might return to the Wilk of old. I highly doubt we see that Wilk here again in a Jets uniform.
Not sure if this was brought up but if Mo gets injured prior to the end of the season, the Jets could be on the hook for not only this season but next season as well - on another forum a poster stated if the production isn't there, sit him so it doesn't end up costing them.
wilk's bday this sunday (turns 27) not sure if his current level of play (or effort?) is worth it, even on the cheap cut his slacker ass in '18!! . . ✌️
He's beat up right now taking on double teams. Every now and then he flashes good plays, but it's clear to see he's lost a step or he's trying to regain that step back. I'll give him to the end of the year to fully assess where Mo really is.
he deserved the flogging though, he has that bloated contract with very little production. If his feelings are hurt, then he needs to toughen up. I can't stand the talk of players feelings and mentality anymore. Toughen up and stop being so soft bc someone called you a name or said you suck. Block it out and perform the way we know you can and the way your contract dictates. or get out
Fair enough. . As for the double teams, I've also seen an uncomfortable number of one-on-ones where he's gotten stoned, taken down or 'walked downfield' to the 2nd level. Fwiw, started mentioning it last year after the Bills game heading into K.C. (the Fitz 6 ints disaster). The argument was Wilk was passive in his pass rush in order to contain Tyrod Taylor in the pocket which was all well and good....except for the fact that he got schooled vs. the run in the Bills game as well.
Growing pains of a new GM/HC.. Gotta live with it until the light bulb comes on. One day soon hopefully.
Well we have been living with it since 01/13/69. Why should the future say from today onwards we will be any different then the period from 01/13/69 until today 10/20/17?
Champ, chances are neither one of us will live long enough to see another Jet SB. I would advise you to find some compromise with the SB or bust thing or use whatever time you have remaining in a more productive manner. Me? I have my fishing hobby so I'm good on Sundays whether the Jets play, don't play, play well or suck. If I were you, I'd find an alternative too. None of us live forever.
Yes I was going to post something like U posted. The NYJs will be around 50 years from now but OTH neither of us will be. However, while I am here I can still expect another SB W since I am proud to say I still remember the last on in 1969
last year when Wilkerson blamed his lack of pass rush production on the secondary it was all you needed to know. Since he got his contract he doesn't bust his ass anymore. He gets off the line with a good burst but then instead of fighting to shake blockers he just engages, gives up and puts his hands up. If he doesn't immediately break free then he gives up and instead of working to rush the passer he'd rather be lazy and blame it on the secondary. Cut him after the season, I've seen enough
When you're seasoned like Wilkerson and he's looking slower than Shaun Ellis high as a kite on weed, I hate to say it, but he's mailing it in. What does coaching have to do with Wilkerson not knowing what to do at this point? I know he was injured, but this is John Abraham times a million (heh) IMO - only Abraham got it somewhere else and did OK. Wilkerson is just collecting at this point, and if he's smart, he'll retire at the right time and just bank it. Gholston was reamed for being a bust, but he made 3 million more than I'll ever see. At least Gholston made a limp wristed attempt to try. I'm down on Wilkerson right now.
After his twitter fall out with that reporter who called him fat, I thought he would come in firing on all systems to prove a point but it seems that he just plainly hasn't been overly bothered and I really do hate having to disparage a player but he isn't making it easy.
Yeah, I hear ya. And by the buy, I was kidding about Gholston. He walked away with a lot more than 3 mil and to clarify, I'll probably never see a million dollars at one time, like, ever. OK, at all. I'll never understand why I went undrafted. 5'1 1/2", arthritic knuckles, my vertical leap sucks, but I can draw and paint better than that hack, Leroy Neiman. I call bullshit.
Gholston remains a mystery, his tape at college still looks the business and personal accolades Big Ten Champion (2005, 2006, 2007) Second-team All-Big Ten (2006) First-team All-Big Ten (2007) Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year (2007) First-team PFW All-American (2007) Rookie Madden Bowl Winner (2009) He is now 31yo btw
If Wilkerson sits this Sunday, who is next on the chart? Who do they move there? Maybe it turns into a good thing. I just read that they may sit him for two weeks . . . ? Pregnancy test may have come up positive.
Also, if the Jets do cut him in 2018, what are they on the hook for? I need Mike Tannenbaum to 'splain me.
he counts 20 mil against the cap next year. if we cut him we save 11mil and have 9 mil in dead money. after that it's all savings so 2019 would save 18.5mil and 2020 would save 19.5 mil so overall savings over 3 years 49 million and we lose 9 mil in dead cap also worth nothing not only is wilk our highest paid player, he's the only player on the team with a cap cost 10+ million. also we have tons of room already. we should have almost 85mil next season before any cuts and very minimal players to resign
