We ain't the Patriots. One or two parts like Moss and Thomas will not fix us. This mess will take a few years to get fixed. Changing the man behind Center is just getting a new engine and the first step.
Anthony Becht at TE with Gerald Sowell at FB along with a big WR with no hands like McCariens lined up tight.
Well, that is different from what you said in your previous post: It is one move, and one move will not be "the answer".
Holy cliche Batman. Seriously you really think getting at least 1 future Pro-Bowler and a fixture on the inside for a 3-4 is a bad move. I do not. There are many reasons why: 1.) CB is a glaring need. 2.) The best 3-4 end in the draft was gobbled up before the Jets picked. 3.) ILB is obviously now a glaring need. 4.) How do you know the FO thought the OL available was worth another high draft pick after 2 first rounders last year. 5.) There were no true 3-4 NT's available. Also I said this in another thread. Tannenbaum may have drafted possibly 4 future Pro-Bowlers in the last 2 drafts. The talent for this is completely possible. Mangold, Revis, Brick and either (L. Washington (ST),Harris) all have the talent to do it as well. Not too mention that Tannenbaum has drafted very well as far as hitting on picks that contribute. If KC becomes the next starting QB and he does have a high ceiling then how on Gods green earth can you question Tannenbaums competency? What other FO has drafted as many players that contribute in 2 drafts. It took Parcells 4 drafts to do this. Herm and Bradway................. lol This is a rebuilding team with many flaws. Any team that has as many flaws and is young is going to have growing pains. This is too be expected. Hopefully, the FO and CS will not hit the panic button like 60-75% of the fans.
Took Parcells 4 drafts? He had three immediate good starters from one draft alone. Ellis, Becht and Abraham. The fourth is the QB still playing today. I love how people like to rewrite history.
Actually, Barry Sanders is pretty much the only RB I've ever seen play that I think could average 4+ YPC with nothing for an offensive line... But the point is, it's very difficult to run behind this line
Hello Don anyone home? What draft was that of Parcells? Care to take a guess? I love how people try to rewrite history!
Here are Parcells 4 drafts: 1997 Rnd Pick Ovrall Name College Pos 1 8 8 James Farrior Virginia LB 2 1 31 Rick Terry North Carolina DT 3 28 88 Dedric Ward Northern Iowa WR 4 6 102 Terry Day Mississippi State DE 4 8 104 Leon Johnson North Carolina RB 5 1 131 Lamont Burns East Carolina G 5 15 145 Raymond Austin Tennessee DB 6 1 164 Tim Scharf Northwestern LB 6 28 191 Chuck Clements Houston QB 7 1 202 Steve Rosga Colorado DB 7 28 229 Jason Ferguson Georgia DT 1998 Rnd Pick Ovrall Name College Pos 2 26 56 Dorian Boose Washington State DT 3 6 67 Scott Frost Nebraska DB 3 26 87 Kevin Williams Oklahoma State DB 4 19 111 Jason Fabini Cincinnati T 5 11 134 Casey Dailey Northwestern LB 5 18 141 Doug Karczewski Virginia T 5 23 146 Blake Spence Oregon TE 5 26 149 Eric Bateman Brigham Young T 6 10 163 Eric Ogbogu Maryland DT 6 21 174 Chris Brazzell Angelo State WR 6 30 183 Dustin Johnson Brigham Young RB 7 6 195 Lawrence Hart Southern TE 1999 2 26 57 Randy Thomas Mississippi State G 3 29 90 David Loverne San Jose State G 4 28 123 Jason Wiltz Nebraska DT 5 29 162 Jermaine Jones NW Louisiana DB 6 14 183 Marc Megna Richmond LB 6 28 197 J.P. Like I said this FO has accomplished in 2 what it took Parcells 4 years. Kthanxbai
LOL..maybe you forgot the Jets had to give up all their picks to NE to get Parcells. His first real draft was 2000 and he scored a bullseye. Not that Farrior and Thomas were chopped liver.
Don't mean to be a downer here, but with 4 FIRST ROUND draft picks, it's a little hard to screw things up. IMO Becht never lived up to the hype, If memory still serves, J-Abe and Ellis were both top 15 picks, maybe one was top ten #9? maybe? Pennington was #22 and at that point a luxury, there were questions about his arm coming out, but the Jets took a flyer on him anyways, and he turned out as a stellar QB till he got hurt. So name me any team in NFL history who has 4 first round picks in the same draft, and manages to not grab at least 2 solid players? Remember we got only one major playmaker, in J-abe. Ellis and Penny both had that one year. and Becht, well he never could catch the ball, but he could at least block for us. not Probowl caliber by any means. So i believe J-abe went to the Probowl twice as a jet, and Ellis once, neither of the other two went, so Tanny may have snagged 4 Pro bowlers in two drafts, and we still have barely seen Clemens play yet. So, no I don't think that Parcells 2000 draft that you brought up was that good. (btw you probably should have tossed Coles into your argument)
Seriously, please stop. His first real draft was 1997. He stunk up his first 3 drafts. I know you probably have this manlove for Bill, it is ok he was a HOF coach no questions asked. He was not however a great personel guy. As much as you will not admit it, this Front Office (IE Tannenbaum) has seemed to draft rather well. It is ok to not want to admit it. I understand it would make pretty much every argument you make on this board wrong.
Great post and thank you! Sorry I had to fix that little bit  If anything Parcells did in the personnel area it was the trade of K. Johnson. Other than that he was just a hair north of suck.
Ok lets see what was on that list. Farrior, Ferguson, Leon Johnson, Fabini, Thomas and the 4 #1s in 2000 +Coles. When we had them all on this team we were at least 10 times better then we are now. So yeah, Parcells knew what he was doing and he did without a first two years in a row.
Take a look at the entire draft those years and see who is still playing among those drafted after the Jets.
