The real question is, how many times have you said this over the past 13 years? Answer: too many.

Stop it. TLaw was the top tier QB. Everyone else was simply media hype. You had to convince yourself for every other QB.

So you sell the news… investment banking 101.

tlaw was the top QB, doesn't mean zach wasn't also a top player in the draft. It wasn't media hype that makes 0 sense.

Yes it was. You didn't even know who Zach Wilson was a year before. He was a no-name QB from BYU that played great ON TAPE during a COVID year against no fans and no real competition. He was one of the most overhyped QBs in NFL history at the draft.

I never believed in him and thought we should have traded the farm and rolled with Darnold on his final year. Every team was reaching because they missed out on TLaw and was trying to placate their fanbase.

Zach was never a top player in the draft. He was just an overhyped college QB. How Fields gets drafted lower than him is a crime.

whether you felt that way or not is irrelevant. same with how I feel. he was still a top prospect in the draft based on every scout/team/GM/site etc.

Wilson was benched at BYU before the Covid year lol.

Looking back what a stupid pick

it especially hurts because Miami used a trade down to completely stack their franchise and now we gotta lose to the guys we coulda had

Yeah I mean he certainly was considered a top pick by a lot throughout the league and media. That can’t really be disputed. It’s still mind blowing IMO though given who they played and how much better they truly were than all of the other teams they played.

I forget what show or podcast I was watching but earlier in the year someone summed up Brady Cook vs. Georgia this year perfectly - pressure from Middle Tennessee State is a little bit different than pressure from Georgia. But they both go in the same pressure bucket.

For reference, BYU played 4 games against teams above .500.

    UCF 6-4
    UTSA 7-5
    Boise State 5-2
    Coastal Carolina 11-1

If anyone watched that Coastal game he looked pedestrian at best. To BYU’s credit, they took the game on short notice and traveled across the country, but Coastal still had 5th year seniors that played at D1AA on the roster so I call it a wash.

Geno Smith was predicted #1 overall in most "expert" mock drafts....

I was still pissed when they drafted him in the 2nd round

Players are drafted on more then just college success though. and you can't control who you play. you want to see success but scouts look more at the physical traits and figure they can coach the rest. it's the old "you can't teach speed" adage. it was like the whole mayfield vs allen debate we had here. mayfield had the stats and success. allen didn't. but allen on film looked more impressive and wound up being the better QB. QBs are just so ahrd to judge coming out of college becuase the mental adjustment form the college game to the NFL is such a huge leap. in college you can get by on physical talent alone, in the NFL it's the elite of the elite so you need to have the mental game too

    Cool. Another mansplain.

Who they play matters a lot and if you ignore the level of competition that a player players, then that’s on you. No one is talking about stats or success either because he had both in 2020.

If you wanna get into it and play the film game, go back and watch how many wide open receivers he was throwing to, how well he was protected against subpar competition, and the simplistic offense he ran.

Not to mention wouldn’t you agree that there’s a reason that there are only two decent to good Group of 5 quarterbacks in the league right now? Carr and Allen with Jordan Love on the fringe of that category. Carr also had double the amount of passing attempts Wilson had in college and Love had a full season more than he did. Allen is such a strange anomaly that it never makes any sense to compare him to anyone.

Until we see someone have a meteoric rise from average college QB to near MVP and perennial SB contender again, he can’t really be compared.

all colleges run simplistic offenses compared to the NFL. it's the nature of the beast. you can't have players for a long time. it needs to be plug and play. the competition also varies widely and is nothing near the level of NFL players. thats why so many QBs fail. I did watch a lot of zach on film and he looked good. same way I did with allen. IDK if you remember the allen vs mayfield debates back then but I was in the minority for preferring allen and kept hearing the same "baker is more accurate. he's a 70% passer allen isn't even 60% meanwhile I watched baker barely be able to hit wide open WRs and watched allen drop dimes into tight coverage over and over but people were too into the stats and didn't want to do the work.

I'm not sure what you are asking about the QBs to answer that? it's worded kinda funny.

also a conversation isn't a mansplain, it makes you sound very insecure to throw that word out there when it's just people conversing about football on a football forum.

I do remember them and I also remember you, along with everyone else being big into Rosen and Darnold as well. I do like when you omit those things though it’s kind of funny.

And once again, the Josh Allen example really needs to be thrown out until it happens again. Like I said, there’s never been anything like it in the NFL in recent memory.

Rosen I wasn't big into. I thought he was safe but would never be great. Figured he'd be a safe game manager. I was into darnold as the defacto but fully said I hadn't watched much on him since he was slated to go 1st overall until like a week before the draft and even if not figured giants would take him at 2. before any of that or the trade up I said we should trade back for lamaar because I loved lamaars film. could have kept the 3 2nds and got more picks and took lamaar in the middle of the 1st. that was my main plan for the jets which was of course laughed at. after we traded up I had to abandon that hope. Were all right and wrong sometimes. I don't omit anything I was comparing zachs film to allen. they both had very similar film to me. everything I loved about allen I loved about zach. Zach just never got the mental part. allen did. Rosen and darnold weren't relevant to the situation. I love how you are on a mission to try and point out any mistake I could have made while I couldn't care less about you or yours. I live rent free in your head. It's pretty sad.

There is no mission, you’re a habitual liar and it’s incredibly easy to point out. You also never change your opinion after the fact which is the best and usually pick and choose what you regurgitate as your opinion years later. Just like the supposed love for Allen but not Rosen or Darnold.

And it’s funny you say all of that because you literally dragged me into a thread about rules you were wrong about and then relished in the fact that you thought I was wrong, which I wasn’t, like a true internet douchebag.

You were all over this predraft. I remember how excited I got watching him and some of the throws he made, but looking back at it those throws he made in tight windows were picked off in the NFL.

lol yeah that sounds like i'm not living in your head rent free. you made up some crazy shit about me and are on a mission to try and prove it true. must be a sad existence but hey if it makes you smile, carry on.

and in that thread I was the only adult. I proved myself wrong and admitted it. while you and the other angry townspeople ignored all the mistakes you made like little children :)

QB is so difficult for fans to analyze because we don’t get to lock them in a room like the teams do and poke and probe their mind and personalities to see if they could lead a team. We’re flying incredibly blind even if you watch all the film and crap but Wilson just stunk from the beginning to me. I was on Fields so I was pretty wrong too.
