The accident came close to severing Wood's leg. He had several broken bones in the lower leg. Anybody who has responded to that type of situation will tell you that evaluating the driver for sobriety in the absence of the reek of alcohol just isn't happening in real time. Woods was undoubtedly in a fog when the officers responded to the call. His body had been releasing natural endorphins for minutes already since the crash - a natural defense mechanism against severe pain that prevents the victim from losing consciousness for as long as possible. When they got there the first thing they were thinking is how do we keep this guy alive until EMS gets here? The second thing was likely "holy shit! That's Tiger Woods!" Then they're working with the emergency crew being guided by EMS as the extraction is taking place. Finally, Woods is in an ambulance and on the way to the hospital without a police escort because there's no room in the ambulance for an active police officer, the EMS technician and Woods. They get to the hospital and it becomes a medical operation. The police couldn't get near Woods if they tried too. They certainly can ask for a blood sample to be saved for later but in that ER at that moment they have no pull unless the personnel there feel threatened by the patient. The odds that Woods is evaluated for DUI in this situation are fairly small unless something obvious comes back in the initial bloods. There were no other victims at the crash site and no reason to believe that Woods was impaired or that anything happened other than him losing control of his car, likely at a higher than optimum speed on a curved downhill section of road that was known to cause accidents.
Nothing to see here, guy crashed and now a big deal is being made of it. Officer followed policy. I have been to many accidents and cut people out of many cars and the majority of them don’t remember what happened, brain deals with trauma in different ways. I can tell you guys for a fact that in an emergency of this seriousness, it’s all about rapid removal and rapid transportation. Now we have some so called expert playing Monday morning QB.

Apparently he was driving around 40 mph over the speed limit when the accident occurred. https://www.adn.com/nation-world/20...er-speed-limit-before-suv-crash-sheriff-says/
