We didn't LOSE a pick. That's the bottom line. Yes, moving from 37 to 63 cost us the "equivelant" of the 3rd pick in the 3rd round, but the reality is, we still have 1-1, 2-2, and 1-3. We also happen to have a all-pro RB with SB experience on our team now. No, moving from 37 to 63 isn't "nothing", but the 2nd round is pretty muddy when it comes to finding starters, maybe 50/50 at best regardless of where you pick. We still have 2 picks, and now a all-pro RB, so 50/50 works for me.
This is a great trade. Jones singlehandly got da bears to the SB. Yes I watched him and he was the star on the bears. Love this trade, man he's bad and much better than ANY of the other RBs that were mentioned(Dillon....oh come on) in FA or trade. We are set at RBs. He is a playmaker bigtime and will change the whole dynamics of our running game. Teams when they play us will gameplan stopping our running game a priority.
Singlehandly? I doubt that. They had one of the best defenses in the league, and Grossman was good for the first half of the season, with their defense carrying them the second part of the season. Plus he split his carries with Benson.
Look at his body of work over the season though. Not only did he rush for some yards, he also matched Kevan Barlow's touchdown production.
My brother was telling me on the train this morning that he heard on ESPN last night, the announcer said, "The Thomas Jones trade was probably one of the best, if not, the best trade in the history of the NFL." When you consider what we acquired vs. what we gave up, that is why it is so good.
