We should also take out the runs where the O-line opens a huge hole for him to run through... because, that doesn't take any sort of skill on his part.

I'd like to see him break a tackle. 9 out of 10 of his big runs come when he runs through a hole that you can drive a truck through.
A guy his size and with his body should not be brought down by an arm tackle.

You want to take off all the runs where he got stuffed behind the line, too? If you're going to give the credit to the OL on the long runs, then you have to blame the OL for Jones getting hit behind the line.

In all seriousness, we're a spoiled bunch. We had one of the best RBs of the last 20 years, a certain HOFer carrying the ball for years here. I think TJ doesn't get the maximum credit because he joined the team in the shadow of the great Curtis Martin. But, you have to admire the way Jones carries himself on the field. He never shows up his teammates, you can see how pissed he gets when he feels he should have broken off a tackle, and he never showboats after a big run. Remind you guys of someone? Even if Jones is gone after this season, which is a definite possibility, he's been a good Jet and someone who really hasn't been appreciated much around here. He really doesn't have the "home run" style of burst down the field, though he does break off a nice 40 to 50 yarder every now and then, but that's not the type of runner he is and no one should expect it. He doesn't have the arms of Hulk Hogan because he can run like Usain Bolt. His best attribute is his strength, and more often than not he turns a 2 yard run into a 5 yard run, which will get overlooked in the fantasy football realm of the sport but is just as important in the grand scheme of things.

That's what I think too... no one is complaining about the numbers he puts up but in sooooo many occasions he goes down the exact moment he gets touched.

Keep the legs moving and gain those extra yds damn it!!! I think a lot of times we are on 3&6 and not 3&2 because TJ just fucking stops running.
That changes the whole situation, especially with a rookie QB under center...
Sanchez might be Tj's biggest enemy (because of the 8man in the box) but it also works the other way around.

Those few carries Greene had he at least drove the team forward to a 1st down (same thing F. Jackson of the Bills and F. Taylor of the Pats did against us many many times).

NO and NO those are 2 false statements.

He certainly has more of Hogan's arms than Bolt's speed and he never NEVER turns a 2yds run into a 5 yds one with his strength.
He is very good at identifying the holes in the OL and this is why sometimes it looks as if he is going nowhere and instead he gets through a very small hole... but he doesn't hit the hole hard (because sometimes he just stops behind the OL waiting for a hole to open) so if a LB or a DL gets even an arm on him no way he goes an extra 3yds... he is done there, in the exact spot where the first pinky touches him.
That gets mo so mad, TJ weighs 212 pound, not 190!
But as we all now in physics F = m a (Force = mass per acceleration) he has a bigger mass than many RBs but his acceleration is so low he doesn't have a lot of Force to run through the hole.

He has to understand a hole sometimes just doesn't open... in those cases you have to run straight ahead at full speed and get a couple ox extra yds... not dance behind the OL and loose a couple.

I like Jones, but his running style between the twenties I've never been all that fond of. He is patient, almost too patient waiting for the blocking to develop before me makes his move... it's that hop-hesitation thing he does. That works well against below average run defenses, but not so much against good run D's.

When he reads his blocks, he is good at picking a lane and taking off. Against tough defensive lines, when a good hole may not develop, he has no momentum to run through traffic and break tackles. It isn't that he can't be a more powerful ball carrier, just watch him inside the 5 yard line... he power plunges into the gap that was called to hit. None of that hesitation, that hop.

This is why he is a good GL back. This is also why he does not have better games against good run defenses. I'd like to see him be more aggresive between the twenties against the better defensive lines... just hit the gap that was called. Forget waiting for a running lane that will never develop.

Jones' blocking abilty is often over looked, and with a rookie QB, having a "green" Greene in for more plays could be disasterous. Sanchez needs all the help he can get right now. Having two rookies in the backfield, well I agree with the CS, it probably isn't a good idea.

I'll take TJ with his shortcomings, thank you. Greene just needs a bit more time. As the season goes on, I'm sure he'll get more snaps.

lol at the outrage WSW caused with the sarcasm.

as much as most of this board wants to hate on tj he is still an above average back in this league. even though WSW was being sarcastic some people do use that logic while wanting a back that is dominant like AP. if you watch a vikings game you will see peterson getting stopped for a yard or two or no gain plenty of times. he will then usually break a big run at some point. when he does it is domination. when tj does it he can only have success when he gets good blocking.

I hear ya. I was saying he's big in the arms BECAUSE he's not that fast. He doesn't break the tackle all the time, but he does occasionally. The point of my post was that after having Martin as our featured RB for years we're a little spoiled. That's it. I wasn't saying TJ is a great RB, but I think he's fit on this team pretty good the last 3 or 4 years.

    excuse me.

The guy hits the hole harder than Elliot Spitzer ...NFL leading rusher last year...5th in the league this year.....Never gets injured......

Workhorse...Most yards for a Jet in a single game...and he would have had more if shotty would have given him the ball more.

I was unaware that TJ led the NFL in rushing last year.

I like that he is unhappy with his contract so he is running hard thi year. Hopefully somebody else sees this and takes him off our hands.

running backs have a predictable lifetime.... they don't last very long compared to QB's and other positions.

that is so silly, but not surprising. when curtis was in his last 2-3 years everyone was dogging him because he didnt break off a long one. now that it is tj, how about the hypocrisy.. lol
