They are off to a good start, though. A Playoff team with over 1/4th of the season complete. For them, that's serious progress.
I guess if we were Giants, Rangers, Knicks fans we would be all happy right now this gloomy Monday afternoon.
Don't really understand why Melo is getting way more flack than Phil. Phil is the one who put this catastrophic team together, not Melo. Does Melo have his flaws? Absolutely, but more of the blame is on Phil IMO.
The Knicks offense is boring. This is 2017 in the NBA. If 3 guys don't touch the ball after midcourt you're screwing up in a huge way. On some Warriors possessions the passing never stops and the game threatens to go into an infinite time loop until somebody is wide open and buries a 3-pointer or gets an uncontested layup off of all the passes. Right now the Knicks should be showing Porzingis endless loops of Carmelo Anthony and saying "never do what this guy does because he's never won squat in the NBA and he never will". They should be telling the guards that every drive off of transition where nobody else touches the ball looks great for them but puts their teammates to sleep - unless they miss the layup in which case it's just a disaster. When Porzingis posts up and goes through that long, awkward setup for a jumper in traffic he's putting his teammates to sleep and he's also exposing the ball and increasing the chances the guy who guards him is going to get help before he gets the shot off. He's a phenomenal athlete at 7'3" but he's not Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and he doesn't hit that shot 70% of the time the way Jabbar did with his sky hook. He's more like 45% on it and it's only for 2 points and he almost never gets fouled doing it because the defensive guy is quicker than he is most of the time and is going to disrupt the shot on the way up. What I want to see is Porzingis setting up in the low post, drawing his man in tight and then passing the ball to a runner for a layup or kicking it out for a 3.
This is a sad season. The Knicks were in the #3 seed just 12 games or so ago, now they are out of the picture. They have been plummeting. Health has been an issue and Noah has been hot steamy dog doo. If I'm the Knicks I'm highly considering moving Porzingis to center and putting Melo at the 4 where he generally plays much better. Melo isn't going anywhere, we might as well play to his strengths. Have Noah come off the bench, Kyle Oquinn has been better. Also I'd like to see a lot more Ron Baker. Porzingis definitely needs to improve his durability and bulk up a little bit. I hate to see him injured so often, I hope he doesn't become another Bargnani. The young guys are there to build around. I could see a future with Baker, Kuz, Porzingis and Hernangomez all being starters and this upcoming draft is supposed to be very deep, so the Knicks struggling this year could actually benefit them in the long run, if they are rebuilding with youth. They just have to survive 2 more years of Melo after this one.
Totally on board with Baker getting more run. I was a big fan of his at Wichita St and loved his game. He was always under control and can knock down the occasional 3.
He reminds me of Becky Hammon on the Liberty circa 2003. Scrappy player that can knock down some points and that the fans just love for some reason.
I will stake all of my vCash that this is the first time in the history of the internet these words appeared on a sports forum.
sports forum? any forum, any place a spoken word is ever uttered, any place a letter is typed or even scribbled. i promise you that was a once in a lifetime sentence.
That was impressive. I do like the way Horny switches rotations up when they don't seem to work, although his arm may have been twisted this time with both Noah and KP out. It seems like every time Noah is out the Knicks win. Hell, even Plumlee looked semi decent in comparison.
Bad loss last night. Up 1 with 40 seconds. We seem to lose a lot of close games... is that reflective of the coach not being prepared in tight situations?
I guess you had to be there to understand. I was a Liberty season ticket holder from 2000 to 2003 or so. When she came in the game as a reserve the crowd always roared and she always dropped a couple of buckets for them to pay them back. A lot like Baker today.
It's strange because earlier in the year, they were winning close ones. I do think it usually has to do with coaching. With Fisher we never won close games, they broke down during the last couple minutes so many times. This game was there to win if Courtney Lee shot that 3 instead of passing it or if the proper foul was called on the Jennings shot. They definitely need to work on their focus at the end of games. They should at least get a shot off on that last possession.
