In the midst of your crying and rambling about the first day of free agency it may help you to research out how winning teams are built. They have turned over their WR core, their Offensive line core and many others in the last 3 years. You also may want to note that had they kept some of their receivers they would never have lost to the Colts!
I have no problem w/ the way we are doing things in terms of not overspending for overrated free agents. But when you go 10-6 w/ a relatively young roster a franchise has to realize that their fan base is going to have some high expectations for the following year. We have alot of positions in need of upgrades and frankly actual starters. I'm just confused why we shun a position like the OL in free agency. We currently have no starting RT and a growing concern at the guard position. is a guy like Steinbach or Deilman really gonna break the bank? All this talk Tannenbaum had about "Filling our needs to give us flexibility on draf to take the BPA" just sounds like BS to me. I'm fine w/ us being patient and building a team long term through the draft, but if thats the case, dont make comments to the media like that.
I agree Kurt- it's a little iffy not having a competent RT at this stage in the game in the division with arguably the best overall pass-rushing talent. We all know our weakness at guard. Unless the Jets surprise me in the draft, I'm going to have a sour taste in my mouth of this offseason.
You can't be serious? They are in decline? They have a QB in his prime who I think most would argue if they had one game to win they would take him as their qb. They have a very good offensive line who are all relatively young signed long term. For a 3-4 team their defensive linen in Seymour, Warren and Wilfork is absolutely nasty and they drafted those guys and none of them are old. So both lines are young, home grown and they have a great qb signed for the long time? Yeah they are really in decline. Samuel is a young top 10 cb who I'm guessing they will try and get signed long term. Ben Watson is just a nasty tight end and Dave Thomas will probably be good too. Let's not forget Marouney. The only position they are old at is Linebacker with Colvin, Bruschi, Vrabel and Thomas. But BB has always favored experienced linebackers and with that line in front of them he doesn't need to have great linebackers. Signing Thomas at 29 is a great move for them, Since both of their lines are in place they can afford to spend money on pass rushers and skill players. So are they really in decline?
The linebackers are now officially aging given that all of them will be 30 or older at some point next season. The secondary is also showing some gray with Rodney Harrison the undisputed leader back there turning 35 during the season. There are definitely some chinks in the armor at this point. On offense it basically comes down to Brady and Maroney now. If either of those guys gets hurt or has a subpar season then the Pats have a very good chance to be a 9-7 ordinary team. Are the Pats collapsing? No. In decline? Yes.
I still don't see how they are in decline. Every year you look at their linebackers and think they are old and they are but they fill the holes. In any of the superbowl years if Brady had gotten hurt they wouldn't have done anything so thats not a good argument at all. Their offensive line has proven that basically any running back can be productive behind them. Harrison has been getting old every year, if there only old positions are the linebackers and one safety spot they are much better off then almost every other team in the league.
Oh, how quickly you all go from last season where all anyone wanted was the Jets to be respectable again and then, lo and behold. Tanginibaum gets 10 wins and the Jets go to the playoffs! No one predicted that except the blind optomists and even they were kidding themselves. But it happened and it was fantastic. Now you greedy bastards expect the Jets to overtake the Patriots just like that? Gimme a break. These things take time. Have patience. Have faith.
