Yes rebound this team was supposed to make the playoffs and actually had the AFC east won at 8-3 if not for a total collpase. The players are in place and so is the 2009 schedule. Whoever inherits this team will benefit just like Mangini did his first year. The problem Eric Mangini didnt know how to deal with success and how to defend whats yours and let the players know that winning is what its all about.
On the bright side, we broke the streak of making the playoffs in even years, and not in odd years. Maybe we have a chance in 2009.
The Jets have some big holes in their lineup. IMO they have to get rid of Favre, Thomas and Ellis ... look for a WR, QB, S, CB, DE. It's ridiculous that we got 7 pro bowlers!
In August did you actually think the team was "supposed to make the playoffs"???? If you did you were part of a small club. We are not rebounding, We are building on the success of 2008. Certainly the end result was dissapointing but this team came a long way from 4-12 in 2007 and in no sense is 2009 a "rebound" season. We won 5 more games in 2008 than we did in 2007. That = improvement. 2009 is about further improvement not rebounding.
I agree, add two players to this defense, a LB who can cover and a good safety or cornerback and its a great D. Not elite, but great. And add those things and one more pass rusher and it will be elite. And all you have to do on offense is call good plays and were set. Just run the ball first and foremost and then pass off of play action and this is an elite offense. Get more carries for Leon, throw more to Keller and will have enough big plays even with Coles and Cotchery. Its a good team that was poorly coached and has some serious holes on the roster that need to be filled. Add a few players, call sensible plays and we will do better. And how did we do this year? 9 wins. Just running the ball more would have taken this team to 12 wins. Of course, the big problem is that Brady comes back next year.
In August most people were predicting 11-12 wins and we should have had at least that. There were no excuses at all for losing to NE the first time, Oakland, Seattle or San Franciso. No excuse except having the worse head coach the NFL has ever seen.
Brett would not have stood for sitting down for three games Don't think for a moment that that consecutive starts record isn't foremost among Brett's most prized possessions. It's not fair to compare Brett's clueless demands to dumb down the defense and bring in some of his Green Bay stuff so he could function, with Chad's quick study review an old NYJ offense written and directed by Dan Henning for Chad lo these many years ago at the start of his NYJ career. What is also not fair is what this did to the rhythm and momentum of the offense until after the first three games or so. But what happened to change everything on offense after Tennessee? Can it just be some cold rain that discouraged everybody? Sounds awfully thin doesn't it...?
pretty much every prediction for us in 2008 was 9-7 or 10-6. I have no idea where you found a credible source predicting that the Jets were gonne go 12-4 in 2008.
It was my prediction and many others here and as I said it should have been at least that. News commentators have no credibility ar all and never have. Just look at their history.
It's not too early because I guarantee you: 1) We wil have a new HC that is more Firey and Aggressive 2) We will have a QB that is with the team for an offseason and knows the system THAT ALONE is enough to be optimistic You act as if we won't have a HC or QB and they can't be better than last years versions - I prett much guarantee we get upgrades at both.
Unless Mark Sanchez declares, Tannenbaum should really look into trading up to the 10-12 range to draft Taylor Mays. Abram Elam and Eric Smith consistently got burned and killed our secondary, Mays is a fast and big hitting Safety who would compliment Rhodes very well.
I love the optimism. I do have a bone to pick though with all the "Favre didn't have enough time" bullshit. Penny had less time than Favre did, and there was no problems at all. Anyways, unless you guys find a good QB fast, don't expect playoffs. Just saying.
