The o-line played shitty yesterday, no doubt. Unless you were at the game I don't know how you can comment on what separation the receivers were getting. That still wouldn't explain why not a single PA pass was called when we were running for 6+ a carry. I don't blame the CS for everything, in fact I think this is the first time all season I've bitched about the CS. Schotty called a piss poor predictable game.
I agree that the play-action should have been used more yesterday. I love the play action and I think it should be called at least 3-4 times a game - especially if the running game is successful. Inside the 10, I'm always in favor of a play-action on either first or second down. They didn't do that and chose to run on first and second down. Then they went to the spread formation with nobody in the backfield except for Favre (that was the INT intended for Cotchery). Normally, I don't like the spread formation near the goal-line, but since it was third and eight I don't think a run was an option there anyway. However, I think it's safe to say (without looking at the game film with the WR's patterns) that there were pass plays called with deep routes where the WR just couldn't get open. Seemed to me that Favre was waiting there for a while on several plays waiting for someone to get open. Who knows what happened though? Did the Raiders DB's play the best game of their lives or were the Jet's WR just that bad? One thing I'd like to see if you're going to the spread is the ball being thrown to Keller. IMHO Baker shouldn't be the first TE option if you are going to the spread formation. It should be Coles, Cotch, Keller, Stuckey, and Smith. How hw was the main target or the only guy open on five plays in the first quarter is beyond me. All I know is I hope the players aren't looking at the coaches as an excuse why they lost. I hope that they are spending as much time as we idiots here on a darn forum investigating what they can do to get themselves better prepared. Either nobody got open, or he didn't see them open, or the pass blocking eventually broke down.
I agree w/ your post for the most part BUT even when our STs set up our O w/ GREAT FP last week against Cincy they still couldn't do anything. This O stinks right now and it starts w/ #4.
The players played poor: But there was no aggressiveness in the offensive play calls, and to ignore this makes me sick to my stomach. WIth how well the jets ran the ball, PA would of been open all day long. Favre could of had a FIELD day off of PA. Instead, they didn't use it. Why? Because PA passes are agressive play calls. They keep the defense honest, and they require throws down field. I was wondering for a good long while if there was any PA passes even in the play book, because the game was completely set up for it rip the raiders wide open. I mean, bare minimum, there should of been one attempt at a PA deep pass in OT to a WR. When your only deep throw with the game on the line is to a TE (who yes was open and would of scored if he didn't fall) it has to makei you wonder what the confidence level is truly in favre to win the game./ because, I doubt Baker Deep was the ideal situation they wanted. The play most likley just had him going up the middle for a qucik 15 yard hit or something, and he just happened to keep going and be wide open. Meh, I digress, this is getting silly. It was a team loss, and choaching is part of it. GOOD COACHING could of won this game DESPITE BAD PLAY BY THE PLAYERS. That is the difference between crappy and average coaches as compared to good coaches: Just because your team is playing bad... you coach your way to a victory when the game is still close. Blame it on experience: MM for the packers was only in his 2nd season ever as a head coach last year and he made up a lot for bad play by the players by being aggressive when it mattered the most. He coached his way to wins last season where the team had no right with hpw they played to win the game. Experience is no longer an excuse: He has consistently over the years now not adjusted his offense to suite the situation.
I made a simular Thread after the Pats-loss. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=35924 I?m pretty disapointed with several of our Offensive Leaders thus far.
