I think it really tells you how similar the makeup of NFL teams is (agewise) when a roster can swing to both extremes that quickly in 2 offseasons.
That's semantics and a mere formality at this point. Giving him a raise and an extension is just acknowledging what you know will happen....
Don't we always win the off-season Superbowl? When it translates to game day, and in the win loss column, is all that matters
That’s mainly because of AR, Brown, Moseley, and the punter…..main thing is the core guys are still very young. So while officially it’s true it comes down to just a couple of greybeards….albeit important ones lol.
I would say the 1969 roster is the best the Jets ever had. At least they proved it on the field which is the only thing that matters.
I don't know if it's the best, but on paper it's right up there. Some of the strongest depth I ever remember at many positions. It's hard not to be really excited about this team (though always tempered by the constant sense of impending Jets heartbreak). As others have mentioned, I love the balance of veterans and youth. With life post Aaron Rodgers as the caveat, this looks like a team built to win for the foreseeable future. One thing I will say is I find this group and roster particularly likeable and easy to root for. Maybe this is to some degree an effect of Hard Knocks, 1JD and other Jets media, but it does seem like it's a high character (and highly talented) team, coaching staff and front office.
Apolologies if this seems like yooreenating on a parade, but I get agita from preseason superlatives. Might have happened when we were a 2nd round kicker away from a VLT. I could use a time machine to jump ahead one month.
Yeah I think this is appropriate. The roster looks really good on paper…the defense has pass rushers and strong CB’s … so the defense has the potential to be really really good…and hopefully as good as or better than the 2009 Rex teams and the early 1980’s sack exchange teams… The offense has the potential to be really good as well with arguably our best QB since Namath assuming his age doesn’t catch up to him quite yet, and assuming the OL can hold up. But all that on paper stuff is just that…on paper…now we have to go win a bunch of games. But sure, if we can stay healthy, and if we can win a bunch of games and make some noise in the playoffs (i.e., not one and done), then we can have a serious conversation about how this roster stacks up against some of our best rosters
What everyone is missing in this debate is the bottom of the roster. 2009, 2010, 1998, 1986, all of those rosters had good to great starting rosters. The problem is they had no depth. It's pure foolishness to even attempt to say the 1986 team had a better roster. They suffered significant injuries and they sunk like a stone. This roster, unlike last season, is deep almost everywhere and that's what sets this roster apart.
Well it’s not deep at OL, or more specifically OT. If Becton or Brown goes down, we’re looking at Billy Turner or Max Mitchell as starters. At WR, if GW goes down, we are a below average group. It’s the same at QB…if Rodgers goes down, we go from a probably playoff team to a probably not playoff team in the deep AFC…but not gonna bang too much on that as most teams are toast if their starting QB goes down… On D we are deeper I think, but on O it’s not
i mean for QBs that describes 99% of the good teams. if mahomes, allen, burrow, lamaar, hurts, etc go down they are probably done for as well.
