Tampa had the #1 run defense last season. They're animals when it comes to stopping the run. The next few weeks will be more telling as to how our run game really is. And Goodson isn't even back yet.
I was scratching my head, wondering if he should've let him score so we would have more time and TOs. In the end, I decided that I would rather see a hustle play than giving up points.
Agreed. The intent behind the player protection rules is good but it's a shame that they sometimes have such a huge impact. That's how it goes in the NFL in the 2010s though.
and that kid number 38 from the Bucs needs to be suspended. Im dying to see the fine on him...but he needs to be suspended. You almost kill one guy ok...fine...but two guys? The guy was strictly out there to hurt people Brutal.
I had the same thought. Can't reasonably expect a guy going full speed to think of the "optimal" strategic move in that situation. Loved the hustle.
Last time I checked, defensive scoring counts. The game was on the line and Geno got them to the win. The commentators kept saying Gino should not pass in the middle, being ignorant of the fact that the team was only down by two and 25 yards away from field-goal range. Geno handled business. Plain and simple. Ballgame. 1-0 baby!!!
A lot of positives from today. David Harris looked good, more like 3 years ago. The whole Defensive line looked stout, especially against the run. Vlad looked better than some here want to admit, I can recall two plays in particular where his guy was the only one not in the backfield when Geno was running for his life. I think Brick and Colon both looked worse. Sandwiched between Mangold and Brick, Vlad will be just fine. Hills hands looked decent. Geno can throw a short pass and screen passes. Negatives - Powell and Ivory did little to nothing, even had a few pass drops. D on third and long needs to tighten up.
Kellen Winslow was very good today. I'm nervous that we were so reliant on such a potentially fragile player but I'll take it while it lasts.
Geno straightened himself out in the second half. I noticed no big errors like that interception or fumble.
Geno looks promising. I'm happy that he had a solid debut but it's still only one game. Lets see how he does on enemy territory on Thursday.
