Listen, Mangini, for reasons i can't explain, is known as some defensive guru. If that was really true, wouldn't he: A- have realized that Sutton should have been sent packing last season B- After having more input in the defense, shown us improvment on that side of the ball C- Assessed our Db's, and realize that in order to protect thier inept skills, we NEED TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE QB Mangini was in over his head. FACT
Love these kids thinking they Hate Marty Ball... Marty WINS - I think it's a load of BS to say he can't win the big game when he gets so close so often - When you get that close you play the best of the best and stuff happens... Go back and look at those games and lets discuss exactly where Marty messed up.... And you know one thing - we don't go into games with Oakland and other bottom rung Rush Defenses with an empty backfield looking to be cute - We pound it down people throats like this team was supposed to do - We draft MORE OL - keep the well stocked and run all day and then BAM play action TD!!!!!
- Mangini was never considered a defensive guru - He was a DC for one year and the Pats and Pats fans questioned hios AGRESSIVENESS.. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - Mangini needed to start drinking Red Bull and coach like our opponents did - like jobs were on the line - Why not blitz like mad Vs all these mediocre QB's that dinked and dunked us... Why not Smash the ball down peoples throats when you can.
Totally agree. Woody Johnson is a disgrace. I liked it much better when he took the 'hands-off' approach, because at that point I didn't have to have it thrown in my face how much of a complete buffoon he is and how incapable he is of surrounding himself with people that know how to win with a pro football franchise. Why would any respectable coach want to run the Jets? They wouldn't, because they'd have to answer to this fucking nerd jackass who thinks he's running a band-aid company instead of a football team. I feel like kicking this asshole square in the face.
The New York Post reports that Cowher was turned off by Favre. http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_r...re?eref=fromSI Bill Cowher informed the team last night he is not interested in their head-coaching job, and it could be because he doesn't want to coach Brett Favre. The former Steeler coach was the clear-cut favorite to replace Eric Mangini among Jets fans, and the team's ownership. Now, Woody Johnson must move on to Plan B. Talks between the Jets and Cowher never advanced past the preliminary stage. Sources close to Cowher said he did not want to have Favre as his quarterback, and that he also wanted to bring in people he was familiar with to handle personnel. A source familiar with Cowher's thinking said before last night's decision came down that the former Steeler boss would have to receive assurances from the Jets that the 39-year-old Favre no longer was in the picture before agreeing to take control. New York Post
I wouldn't believe the post at all, that is all speculation based on probably very little, the writer just rolled out of bed this morning and thought of something that would capture some attention.
I don't buy it, personally. If they were going to give him total football control, it was his call, and they don't even know if Favre is coming back. Load of shit, wrapped in newspaper.
I had a feeling the chance of landing Cowher was too good to be true. The good news is, it's not the end of the world....there's still some quality candidates...like Spags and Schwartz. I'm actually hoping that Spags blows away Tannenbaum and Woody this sat at this interview.....i don't give a shit about the possibility of switching back to a 4-3....Spags could be exactly what this team needs. Sure, Cowher has an impressive resume...but Spags resume contains this tidbit: "I ran the defense that handed New England that shiny #1 that can be found to the right of the "18" in the biggest game of the year." all is not lost my brothers and sisters of TGG.
It's just ridiculous at this point. Right now, I can't see much differentiating us from that calamity over there in Detroit. 9 wins (which should have been 8 wins) is about the only difference.
Except it all makes sense. Johnson wants him back...whether HE decides to return or not is moot. Cowher wasn't about to take a job and find out 3 months from now what Favre has decided to do.
based on what??!! There's 3 rookie head coaches in the playoffs this year....one of them has a GREAT shot at making it to the Super bowl, IMO (John Harbaugh). What's with all the love for the retreads?
I'm sorry, but the guy had 1 year left on his contract. Firing him without a high likelihood of landing that guy to put you over the top, is just plain old stupidity. So we get Spags...who I'm not sold on by a long shot, and we start the process of rebuilding AGAIN. This team gets rebuilt more than a fucking sand castle that's below the tide line. I'm sick and tired of rebuilding and switching back and fourth every couple of years, only to have the same jaded ending. Woody...sell the fucking team. Sell....the....fucking....TEAM!
Which still makes Woody a dumbass. NO matter how you slice this shit sandwich, you're coming out with a bad taste in your mouth.
Should somebody give you a list of all the first timers that have been as bad as Mangini? The people doing the hiring need to know something about football and evaluating talent. That leaves out the Jets and is the reason it must be a re-tread.
