To me, Cotchery and Coles are better than Jennings and Driver. Driver is only good. He's far from great. Let's see what Jennings does now that he is going to have more pressure. As for Favre making receivers better, I suppose he does, but... What percentage of Favre's pass receivers through the years were in their prime while members of the Packers? Of course a guy like Freeman had his best years with Favre. By the time he moved to Philadelphia, he was beat up and old. Sterling Sharpe was equally great with Don Majkowski and Favre. Mark Clayton and Keith Jackson were better with Dan Marino and Randall Cunningham, respectively, because that is when they were in their prime.
680 THEFAN here in Atlanta has Theismann on the morning drive about once every 2 months or so. I never noticed it before on his TV appearances, so maybe it's a RADIO THING, but , seems like EVERY radio interview I've heard from this guy, he just wants to take the NEGATIVE approach - on whatever topic is mentioned. Maybe he's just trying to "stir the pot" to create controversy or whatever. I heard his BS this morning on the way in to work and he just sounded FAKE - as if he just wanted to be controversial - no matter what Chris Rude or Perry threw up there, he just shot it down. I lost ALL respect for this dude once I heard his first radio interview on 680.
It took you this long? How about when he changed the pronunciation of his name to rhyme with Heisman.
Are there any objective reasons for this prediction? What makes you think the improvements in personell the jets made will fall short? What are the major holes you see on the roster that make them ".500 at best". I'd love to hear some in depth analysis. Instead you sound like a motherless 5th grader trying to convince himself that Santa truly exists. ".500 at best..i KNOW he's real"
Quarterback A threw for 15 TDs and 17 INTs. Quarterback B threw for 50 TDs and 8 INTs. Which Quarterback won the Super Bowl?

There's only one stat that counts... WINS and Brett Favre has won more game than any other QB in the history of the NFL. The bitter trolls will then argue that he won that many game because he played for 16 years. We'll if you want to put the 16 years into perspective, here's an interesting stat... From the period of 1992 (when Brett started his first game) to 2007, guess what team won more games than any other in that 16 year period. Not the Patriots, not the Cowboys, not the Broncos, no it was THE GREEN BAY PACKERS WITH BRETT FAVRE AS THEIR QUARTERBACK. The best wins/losses average of any team over a period of 16 years! Brett Favre is easily one of the 5 greatest QB ever (IMO, the greatest ever). I've watched every packer game for the past 12 years, and only missed a handful of games in his first 4 years. Favre has always taken huge risks when it was the fourth quarter and the team was down 14+ points. I'd rather have a QB who cares about winning than one who just cares about his pass to interception stats. As a result, probably 3/4 of those games that we were behind 14 points, we ended up giving the opposing team another 7 points because of an interception, but we would have lost anyways (you have to heave it up there). But in over 30 of those games, he hit his target and rallied to win. Which is why is why Favre and Elway rank as the comeback kings! Here are some of the other great QB TD to INT stats to put some of this into perspective: Marino - 420TD 252INT ratio 1.67 TDs to INTs Elway - 300TD 226INT ratio 1.33 TDs to INTs Favre - 442TD 288INT ratio 1.53 TDs to INTs Hey Trolls... are you aware that Elway threw more picks per TDs than Favre? Funny how the Favre haters can't get their statistics right. Bunch of p**sed off Bears or fans who can't stand the fact that the Packers have been bending them over for so many years.
242TDs to 228INTs???? Grogan was a lot closer than you are. Did you even watch football last year? You know, when Favre broke Marino's 420TD record? How do you come up with 242 to 228? The correct number is 442 to 288. 2007 Green Bay Packers 16 16 356 535 66.5 4,155 7.8 28 15 15 93 95.7 29 12 0.4 0 9 3 2006 Green Bay Packers 16 16 343 613 56.0 3,885 6.3 18 18 21 134 72.7 23 29 1.3 1 8 5 2005 Green Bay Packers 16 16 372 607 61.3 3,881 6.4 20 29 24 170 70.9 18 62 3.4 0 10 7 2004 Green Bay Packers 16 16 346 540 64.1 4,088 7.6 30 17 12 93 92.4 16 36 2.3 0 4 1 2003 Green Bay Packers 16 16 308 471 65.4 3,361 7.1 32 21 19 137 90.4 18 15 0.8 0 5 2 2002 Green Bay Packers 16 16 341 551 61.9 3,658 6.6 27 16 26 188 85.6 25 73 2.9 0 10 4 2001 Green Bay Packers 16 16 314 510 61.6 3,921 7.7 32 15 22 151 94.1 38 56 1.5 1 16 6 2000 Green Bay Packers 16 16 338 580 58.3 3,812 6.6 20 16 33 236 78.0 27 108 4.0 0 9 5 1999 Green Bay Packers 16 16 341 595 57.3 4,091 6.9 22 23 35 223 74.7 28 142 5.1 0 9 4 1998 Green Bay Packers 16 16 347 551 63.0 4,212 7.6 31 23 38 223 87.8 40 133 3.3 1 8 2 1997 Green Bay Packers 16 16 304 513 59.3 3,867 7.5 35 16 25 176 92.6 58 187 3.2 1 7 4 1996 Green Bay Packers 16 16 325 543 59.9 3,899 7.2 39 13 40 241 95.8 49 136 2.8 2 11 4 1995 Green Bay Packers 16 16 359 570 63.0 4,413 7.7 38 13 33 217 99.5 39 181 4.6 3 8 4 1994 Green Bay Packers 16 16 363 582 62.4 3,882 6.7 33 14 31 188 90.7 42 202 4.8 2 7 3 1993 Green Bay Packers 16 16 318 522 60.9 3,303 6.3 19 24 30 199 72.2 58 216 3.7 1 14 6 1992 Green Bay Packers 15 13 302 471 64.1 3,227 6.9 18 13 34 208 85.3 47 198 4.2 1 12 4 1991 Atlanta Falcons 2 0 0 4 0.0 0 0.0 0 2 1 11 0.0 -- -- -- -- -- -- TOTAL 5,377 8,758 61.4 61,655 7.0 442 288 439 2,888 85.7 555 1,786 3.2 13 147 64
You are right. I didn't watch football last year. I just decided to jump aboard this year when Farve, Frve, Favre, however you spell it, signed with the Jets this summer. Who is Marino? He's the Italian ice guy, right? He used to play football, too? Wow. Okay, enough of that. I am among the most difficult posters on this board to try to get one over on when it comes to NFL stats and/or history. I saw the ridiculous post from Grogan, went with his numbers, and then made a joke out of it. It didn't work with you. So be it.
Welcome to the board! You jumped in with both feet there and both of them ended up in your mouth, that's quite a way to introduce yourself!
- This is one of the things that makes the NFL so interesting, - like most other sports; if something succeeds its "Brilliant" - if the same attempt fails, its (in No. 4's case) because he is a "Gunslinger" ... But the fact remains; No. 4 throughout his entire career has been able to (mostly) utilize and cope with "what he was given to work with" and still be able to "produce" ... - That to me tells me alot more than the fact that he is also the all time leader in interception ... "With great risk, comes great rewards" ... - "If you don't try, you won't know if you can succeed ..." The saying "You win as a team, but loose as an individual" has never been more "True" than when talking about QB's ... - loose = blame the QB ; win = its the team ... hah
Thanks for the reply but I have to respectfully disagree with you on the "mandated 4pm release". I was all over that story (as we all were) when it was happenning and even though I wasn't on this site (which is the best), I did not ever come across the "mandated 4pm cap problem" situation. I recall Tannnebaum stating that news would be coming out by 4pm the next day on Chad's future and recall thinking we would get a pick from KC. Also, I know from posting and posts on nyjets.com that as much as one to two weeks later, even Randy did not know precisely why Chad was released but speculated that it could be due to "qb budget" constraints. I had felt that the Jet organization did Chad a favor in letting him go so he could select his own team and have some time to mesh. This was confirmed this morning in an article posted by Kentucy Jet this morning on "Pennington wants to make Jets pay". Below is an out-take: "It is a situation that's simple," he said. "The Jets felt like they needed to go and get Brett Favre to be their quarterback and they felt like I wasn't the guy. It's really simple." Pennington harbors no ill will toward Favre. And he said the Jets were respectful and thoughtful to give him his release. _____________________________________ From this, its easy to conclude that Pennington believes the Jets did him a favor by releasing him rather than trying to trade him. I agree too that the Jets showed class by doing this--unfortunately, it may not coincide with whats best on the football field. Be good.
First of all I do think the Jets will be a better team but not good enough to really contend for anything other than an outside shot at a wild card and a 1=done in the playoffs. Further, you really don't want to hear objective reasons, all you want to hear is "RA RA the Jet's are going to win the AFC East, RA RA the Jets are going to win the Super Bowl!!!" As for objective reasons, let's start with 29 year old DT Kris Jenkins, a player that the Panthers flat out just gave up on, mainly because they felt his skills had begun to decline along with his work ethic. Add to that that he has never played as a NT in a 3-4 and the only thing big about his play is his weight, and you get the Jets betting their entire defense on him both now and for the future. Granted that true NT's are hard to find but Mangina is going into his 3rd year and still has no long term plan for the most important position in his defense. Basically every key guy the Jets brought in has similar type questions around them, but in the kool Aid drinking world of Jet fans their all going make this a 14 -2 team. What Jet fans don't get, and who could blame them, is their off-season spending spree wasn't about making them a better team in the long run to really compete with the elite teams in the AFC, it's about competing for $$ with the team in their own market that just won the Super Bowl. It's about a new stadium and PSL sales. So Jet fans should enjoy their 8-8 or 9-7 season while they can, because once the seasons over, the Jets still have no franchise QB, and the spare parts they just spent big bucks on will be a year older holding cap room that will limit the long term moves they could make. You would think Jet fans would have seen this enough over the the last 40 years to understand their teams future is being tossed to the wind in order to pick up 4 or 5 mor games this year, but look on the bright side, at least you'll get to watch Favre force balls into double coverage all year.
