Europeans are buying Iodine Pills like crazy just in case Putins rockets hit Chernobyl or another reactor It seems no one wants innocent bystander thyroid cancer
Iodine pills are being bought everywhere in the West and it has almost nothing to do with reactors. Putin has threatened to use nuclear weapons. You can't ignore that. If he uses a single nuke anywhere the odds are pretty good that people will be using those iodine pills before it's all over. This is one of the things that makes me believe in the great filter theory. One half-crazy old man has the capability to destroy centuries of technological progress alongside a significant proportion of the world's population. I'd like to think there are adults in proximity to Putin that understand what needs to be done but he's insulated himself pretty well. Odds are good that even if they are there they will start the process late and be unable to prevent the conflagration that follows.
Just imagine in less than 100 years we might have had 2 guys that might have the power to pull the plug for billions of people with Hitler (if he had nukes) and now Putin... If not Putin another crazy guy might be next (China? North korea? Even USA?) Who knows... I do believe that humanity downfall is other human.
Those "small nukes" are a fright. If Putin decides to get cute with one of those it will be decision time. I saw that up to 15,000 Russian soldiers have been killed. The ground war footage I've seen have been insane. If this turns into a long insurgency through spring... that will suck for Russia... and Ukraine. Diplomacy now!
I have iodine pills (got them before all this craziness happened). Pity they won't be much use if WW3 happens, as I'm in DC and iodine doesn't protect against vaporization. Though if Putin uses a nuke in Europe, I'll be leaving DC. Maybe I'd regret it if the living end up envying the dead and all that, but I'd at least like the choice of whether to die or not.

Iodide pills are pretty useless for external radiation anyway, they help protect just the thyroid from internal radiation due to injection of a radiated item, or so I have read.
Russian landing ship Orsk was heavily damaged by a missile strike in the occupied port of Berdyansk earlier today.
Can you imagine how much money in losses the Russian’s have sustained as far as military equipment? And how much they’re burning every day. The second answer is an interesting take as to why Russia went for it though, aside from the NATO/Western influence stuff.
I'm guessing for Ukraine's coastal access........ although the way things are going, it may take awhile to turn a profit on that one.
I saw that parents and families in Russia are starting to get wind of the casualties and loss of life figures. If indeed the numbers are at 15k dead to date and 40k injured in just 1 month it would be a colossal epic fail disaster. I saw the Soviet war in Afghanistan that lasted 9 years in the 80s totaled 15k soldier deaths and they also lied about casualties.
