I’m not taking all my money out of the bank but probably wouldn’t be the worst idea to have some cash on hand.

They would join Nato. Certain NATO countries have nukes. Putin doesnt want nukes on his border from hostile countries. The biggest risk for him would be to sit and do nothing, he is in self-defense position and reacting.

The FED now has an excuse to not raise rates, right on time. What a shocker.

    Inflation storm coming to USA.

Even if nukes ended up popping up in Ukraine, it isn't self-defense to invade a country because they have nukes and are next to you. Let alone invading a country because they might have nukes one day and are next to you.

They're caught between a rock and a hard place because while they have an excuse not to raise rates, they also have more reasons to raise rates, considering the inflationary impacts of a Cold War 2.0 with Russia (and possibly China).

Yeah more inflation as a result, obviously oil up even more which will impact everything else.

I think Biden was mentioning that, they might try to tell people that they have to deal with inflation because of Russia going forward, and then back off the rate hikes.

My guess is they'll try to strike a balance between crashing the markets and letting inflation rip. So they'll raise rates but not as much as they would if they weren't worried about the markets. Inflation will be high in the real world, but the markets will be tight.

    Agree with that

Just read the comment section of this tweet, are people under the mindset that this is going to be the lefts revenge for 2016 because they think Russia hacked the election? Geez some people are under the spell.

Russia doesn't have the right to tell Ukraine what to do but just like the US in the Cuban Missile Crisis they don't want to have foreign hostile forces right at the doorstep. JFK was smart enough to make a deal with Khrushchev and avoid potential WWIII. Biden and Co., on the other hand, are still trying to make it look like Trump was a Putin sympathizer, while they are "standing up" to the bad Russian dictator and promoting democracy across the globe (I am surprised many people still buy this democracy line BS). They pretty much cornered him and left him no choice but do what he did today. And as I said before, it's the Ukrainian people paying with their lives and us paying with our money.

Yeah likely, there is a risk though that raising rates pops the market, but inflation isn't going to sit well either. They could delay it too. Maybe the CPI number pulls back a little and gives them relief.

Putin absolutely had a choice: do nothing and let Ukraine do whatever Ukraine wants to do, so long as Ukraine doesn't attack Russia. Or maybe even reach out to Ukraine and give Ukraine reasons to ally with Russia. Instead he chose to invade them. If you believe the Biden administration should have told Ukraine they can't join NATO for practical reasons, then fine. But Russia has zero moral ground here, just as we would have had zero moral ground had we invaded Cuba.

This is NO comparable and does NOT justify attack to the nation of Ukraine.

Russia want to get back their influence over their former soviet nations.

They want to control their influence and put in place a muppet government that comply with their guidance.

If Trump was President right now, Russia wouldn't be actively invading Ukraine today.

    Just reality.

I don't see how ending the focus on only a single enemy rather than all who pose threats indicates anyone "owns" this country. It seems that Russia, among others, is no longer getting the pass afforded by the previous policy.

    from your article:

Olsen said "the current threat landscape demands a broader approach," and cited not just China, but Iran, Russia, and North Korea.

"These nations seek to undermine our core democratic, economic, and scientific institutions," he continued. "And they employ a growing range of tactics to advance their interests and to harm the United States. Defending American institutions and values against these threats is a national security imperative and a priority for the Department."

Olsen insisted that the new approach does not mean that the agency is losing sight of the threat China poses.

"Make no mistake, we will be relentless in defending our country from China," Olsen said.

Not send every message to the world over the past year that the US Military is more concerned with being nice as well as learning things like CRT? Maybe if he didn’t botch the Afghanistan so badly it wouldn’t show such a gaping hole in the US military strategy as well. Petro posted the difference between a US military ad and a Russian military ad and the difference was startling.

You don’t have to be an interventionist to see that Putin’s a bully and he wouldn’t be doing this if he didn’t think the west would stand down immediately, which they effectively are.

What happens when China moves on Taiwan?

    Peace through strength, my friend.
