Welcome to the board, good first post. I think we are starting to develop a little bit of a nucleus again with Brick, Mangold, Vilma, Rhodes, hopefully Clemens and Houston, Coleman, Miller, DRob...all under 25 and can contribute now and hopefully in the future. Hopefully at least some of those guys will turn into a strong nucleus to build around for us.

Okay, now to debunk the whole LaMont Jordan myth. Yes, he had a phenominal YPC his rookie year. Why? He only carried the ball 39 times!

What was his performance last year, in his first full-time starting role?
    Games: 14
    Starts: 14
    Carries: 272
    Yards: 1025
    Avg: 3.8
    Long: 26
    TDs: 9
    20+: 4

Now how about CMart, last year?
    Games: 12
    Starts: 12
    Carries: 220
    Yards: 735
    Avg: 3.3
    Long: 49
    TDs: 5
    20+: 4

Okay, so would I rather have Martin, who played two less games, yet posted a pretty decent season behind a terrible OLine, and absolutley no QB? No, Collins isn't Pro-Bowl material, but he definitely incites more fear than Brooks Bollinger.

Martin's long was almost double LaMont's! Martin had one more TD, in a far worse offense, in two less games! Martin had just as many 20+ carries, in two less games!

And yes, there was a good point after my post about how the loss of McKenzie and Becht killed Martin. The guy continued to play long after he was too hurt to be productive. Personally, I wanted him to continue to play for that last 265 yards. It shames me that Vinny T got to steal a longevity record in the same year CMart wasn't allowed to break Sanders' mark.

See, this is why Martin is so widely regarded as one of the most underrated RBs of all time. The guy is an absolute workhorse, and even at his age, can still be relied upon to get 1000 yards in a season. Had we had even a functional OLine last year he would have hit the 1k mark. Hell, if he had been able to walk he could have pulled off those last 265 yards in four games.

Jordan is not that good. It would be nice if people could remove the Hermway-hater goggles for long enough to see that he wasn't the answer. Same with Moss. Let's see what both of them do this year, now that their divisions have some film to watch.

This is how i see it. A little under 1600 all purpose yards, 11 all purpose Td's and ONE lost fumble in 272 carries.

His average (3.8) was kinda' low, but lets remember he was on a really bad team. Tons of talent on that team, but they sucked. If Collins could have gotten the ball to Porter and Moss, Lamont would have had over 2000 all purpose yards.

He was a big loss for us. No way around it.

the nfl has alot of good running backs. lamont made more guaranteed money than Edge did this offseason. losing him hurts, but still doesn't mean that we should have kept him...he left for more money. nothing you can do about it.

I agree with you, Chad. But to many on this board Curtis Martin walks on water and must play every second of every game as long as he wants to. That's why the jets could struggle this year--Playing Martin instead of their young backs. Some still believe that Martin is Curtis of 1998 --There are MANY more miles on that body and he's coming off knee surgery--he should retire. Martin and Davis started at HB in the 98 AFC championship game. Denver has since moved past Davis to Portis, and past Portis to Bell--good teams move on and don't cling to past glory.

Martin against KC and Miami when Chad and Mawae were healthy, before his knee injury ran for 2.9 and 2.3 YPC, Lamont against those two teams ran for 4.9 and 4.2 YPC.

Your saying Jordan is not that good based on a 3.8 YPC last year playing for an awful team where he also had 70 receptions. Martin before last year has had 3 complete seasons where he averaged 3.8, 3.5 and 3.6 YPC and last year was his 4th averaging 3.3 YPC.

Martin is an absolute workhorse but he is not any more a great all time back than Gaylord Perry was a great all time pitcher.

Moss already had a breakout year with us in 03 with Vinny as the qb
    74 rec
    1105 yds
    10 td's
So i dont really think u can say the only reason he had a good season was because of bad defense and not being a jet. He just had another qb who can throw it deep.

    Moss was lucky? No way.

In the first half of the Redskins' 2005 season, Santana was single-covered while the passing game averaged 300 yards per game. When defenses began double-covering him, the average dropped to 150 yards per game but the running game took up some of the slack because teams could no longer put eight in the box to stop Portis.

Six of Mark Brunell's TD passes for the year were on passes thrown behind the line of scrimmage. Like to guess who the receiver was?

There are only a few WRs in the league drawing double-teams. Moss had one helluva year and the only thing lucky about it was that he stayed healthy the entire season.

    on the mark.

yeah i wish we had McKenzie. I dont know the difference in contract money the Giants gave him but if it wasnt anything absurd I wouldve kept him. I wish we had Becht just because he serves as a another lineman in the run game.(but it was time to search for a TE who could help in the red zone, they also prolly wanted to find penny a better target since he can only work with short to intermediate throws)

because he runs routes, then if the ball is thrown to him, he tries to catch it.

    im going to agree! :breakdance:
