Go ahead, throw out 2007. Pennington still had a 1:1 TD to INT ratio in 2006, while his career average away from shotty was close to 2:1. Favre was not hurt with the Jets until around week 10-11 (torn bicep). I already posted his stats prior to that injury, and his td-int ratio was a little better than 1:1 It was not "just like 2010". Favre was not going to come back in 2010. he had offseason surgery on his ankle and never made a full recovery. The Vikings decided to throw some ridiculous amount of money at him (was it 20 million?) and he decided what the fuck. He came back hurt and had an awful season. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/04/30/brett-favre-needs-ankle-surgery/?related=1 http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/03/report-favre-tells-vikings-hes-not-returning/
That's not my point. My point is that I watched the jets in 06 and 08 and despite the numbers the offense was good/solid. I just posted up numbers to make a point that in some ways stats do not tell the whole story. If you showed someone Sanchez 2011 stats without ever watching him play you would think he had a good/decent season.
Man, you and Biggs with the '06 offense. I was frustrated as hell watching those '06-'07 teams. Defenses bring up the safeties and we never challenged them. Too many interceptions coming out of a "low-risk" short passing game. Same exact crapola as now.
I've made my points with stats on several threads. I don't need to repeat myself just to show how wrong you are. Especially when there are several other people already making that clear for me.
How would you have liked to challenge them in 06? Chad couldn't throw the ball up the field and outside the hash marks in 06 and we didn't have enough running game to set up play action.
These were my thoughts exactly in 06-07. I was not a Chad fan because of it. But you think his two worst years coming under Schotty is a coincidence? And didn't this year's team play the exact same way as those teams? You can ignore the mountain of statistical evidence, but your eyes should tell you the offense (particularly the passing game) has been ineffective for similar reasons throughout Schotty's tenure.
The problem you and the other Sanchez Fans here who just spout crap about Schotty have in comparing pre Schotty Chad with his two years with Schotty were that by the time he got to 06, he had gone through two career threatening injuries and his throws were like wounded ducks. Chad could not throw the 20 yard out pass with ANY consistency or effect during his time with Schotty. In drawing up the offense Schotty HAD to emphasize the short pass, and opponents sat on it. He had no choice. Yet... completion percentage, INT percentage were comparable. His other stats were not that off, either. Opponents figured out how to defend Chad. Do you really not remember that? Schotty did as well as could be expected with Chad's limitations. The one good year Chad had with Miami he went through the whole year without injury, was complemented by the wildcat, which many opponents could not figure out how to defend, and a good running attack. (11th) THey had a weak schedule. And most important of all, Chad shat the bed in the wild card game, throwing four interceptions. So?
The bolded part is what I always thought, which is why I wasn't sad to see Pennington leave. Then I saw how the passing game works with Sanchez and I think it looks exactly the same and defenses are playing it exactly the same. Add in the fact that receivers like Keller and Holmes who have been in the system for at least two years are bumping into each other on routes and don't know when to expect the ball. It's not just Sanchez who looks lost in this offense. And you say that Penny's other stats weren't that far off, but that's not true. His TD-INT ratio was very different, and his YPA was almost a full yard higher away from Schotty.
