Of course - I just see the WR's as a solid group this year that's going to be a point of contention with the numbers game. We'll be keeping 6 minimum. One of those six could be Smith on pup for up to 6 weeks.
The Jets were second in the NFL in least sacks given up last year. Imagine if we didn't totally suck everywhere.
Looked that way to me too. Given decent talent, Petty is going to surprise this CS. It would be a huge mistake releasing Petty or putting him on the PS. Geno is gone after this season and is playing for his next contract/team.
My bad. My first sentence should have read, "The Jets don't know what they have in Geno." (not "in Petty) I'm not sure that it's accurate to say that they know more about Geno than they do Petty, and I certainly don't think it's a "fact." It's undoubtedly a "fact" that many posters here think they know what Geno is, just as they think they know about other players and are all too quick to throw them under the bus, claim their busts and want to get rid of them. The new regime has only been with both QBs for one season. IMO trying to judge and rate Geno on what he was and how he played under a different coaching staff in a totally different offensive system (especially when everyone knew that he needed to sit his first year or two and instead was thrown to the wolves), is about the same as trying to judge what Petty did in college.
Petty completed a few passes against third stringers and he is being hailed as the next Aaron Rodgers by some Jets fans.Jets fans just love to latch onto bullshit
Geno will cost them dead money to cut in the final year of his contract,Petty wont and will either end up cut or on the Practice squad
No way Petty goes. Nearly every picture/video from inside the organization shows #14, #9, #5 together all the time out on the field. #7 is always missing.
It would be a big mistake to let Petty walk. If Fitz goes down and Geno makes the same mistakes as prior years the Coaching staff would be looking at a throw away season or putting in a rookie who isn't ready. I don't think they can be confident in Geno.
Another reason I wish the Jets had 3 QB's on the roster instead of 4 is I would like Hackenberg to get some reps in the Preseason. Judging by that first game, he won't see a single snap until the 4th and final preseason game. I guess that is fine, but tonight we saw Goff and Prescott get some action. Funny for a 4th rounder like Prescott to START a game, where as a 2nd rounder like Hack didn't even get to PLAY in the game. Yeah, if they feel that way, then Geno absolutely should be cut as the result would be the same with Petty. That is the point I was trying to make earlier. The hope is that Geno has improved and can lead the team if Fitz went down. Don't know if it is true or not though. The coaching staff knows more than us, that is for sure.
Who do you know more about? An NFL player that has played in 31 games (started 29) and is entering his fourth season, and fourth training camp, or a player that has played in 0 NFL games entering his second season and second training camp? Cmon bro. We know a lot more about Geno than we do about Petty. What we know about Geno is not very good. The only thing one can say about Petty is his raw skills and what's on tape from college. The upside at this point is obviously greater with Petty based on reasoning, especially when the raw skills are near the same.
By the way for the Geno haters who wanted us to pick up Zach Mettenberger - in his 1st pre-season game he went 2 of 8 took 2 sacks and threw an int. Maybe our FO had a good read on it after all!!!
