All I can think of when I see a QB injure his throwing shoulder like that is Pennington. Hopefully it wasn't serious, but he got fucking smashed into the turf.
I was ****ing infuriated at how badly Shell wiffed on Brahman who then made the borderline late hit on Petty. What really pissed me off is then Shell, showing no personal accountability, just turns and walks up field while his QB is down on the ground. Just what you want to see from your blind side protection. What a POS move. What even further enrages me are the potential consequences to other Jets offensive players who were on the bubble who might have benefited from Petty remaining in the game for at least 2 or 3 quarters, particularly since Hack was essentially ineffective. Shell is on my shit list in a big way for the time being and I sincerely hope Petty was not too seriously injured. If Petty's injury in any way adversely affects his future on our team, I will NEVER forgive this F***.
I don't think they'd want to waste the IR-return slot on Petty in case god forbid Marshall aggravates his hip and is out two months or something like that happens early in the season.
Short term IR is gone, they changed the rule. Now you put as many as you want on general IR and you're allowed to activate one midway through the season, doesn't matter who.
That's exactly right. There is no downside to IRing him (except for the fact that he won't be available until at least week 8). They can then sit around until week 6 and decide what they want to do. If they activate him in week 6 he can practice with the team for 2 weeks before he is activated week 8. If it turns out they need to use it for Marshall they can leave him on the IR until next year when Geno is history.
It sucks that Petty was injured, but even with the few series he played he showed something. Petty has guts, a cannon for an arm, and a nice touch on the deep ball (his biggest criticism in college). He moved in the pocket to buy time when it broke down and kept his eyes downfield looking for the opportunity to make the defense pay. Petty didn't seem to have any problems setting up plays, dealing with the clock or picking up the mike. He didn't look like a rookie out there. He was having fun, with alot of smiles and high fives. He seemed in command in the huddle. The offense seems to be more up-tempo whenever he is in. Petty played better than Chase Daniel, who is being paid $21mio for 3 years. What a joke that is. Petty is light years ahead of Hackenberg at this point, and I wouldn't be surprised if he is the QB that pans out and becomes the Jets long term answer. In fact, I'm saying it. Petty is the guy that will be Jets QB. Not Hackenberg. Maybe next year, certainly the season after. Book it.
I agree. If nothing else, the Jets would be nuts to move him off the roster. Whether trade (unless unreasonably in our favor) or especially through a straight up cut. There's no way you let Petty walk right now. None. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Petty isn't going anywhere, anytime soon. Not only was he just drafted during the 4th round last year but he's also coming off a preseason this year in which (statistically speaking) he ranked out as a top 3 QB. Under those circumstances why would our front office release Bryce Petty? They're not incompetent. He's making the exact type of progress in which you look for out of a potential Franchise QB. And if anyone's going to the PUP/short term IR list it's Hackenberg and not Petty. Petty could challenge Geno for the starting role if anything happens to Fitzpatrick where as Hackenberg at only 21 years of age just isn't ready as a rookie prospect just yet. I see everyone in panic mode over Petty's injury. He's fine. X-Rays came back negative and Petty stated so after the game last night that he feels fine. MRI will reveal more later on today but Petty is fine & won't be placed on any injured list...
Petty is solidly built too. 6'-3"/230lbs. He would have been a LB in the not too distant past. The Kid will be fine. He's young and durable. Tremendous upside too. Perhaps more upside than any Qb presently on our roster. With Geno and Fitz both on the final years of their Jet contracts, Petty stays. What may be the wildcard in this is that Mac has always wanted Hack as a Qb going back to college. I'm just hoping Mac's new responsibility as GM overrides his emotional attachment as a former scout to Hackenberg. Drafting Hack was a reach IMO. I'm hope they don't double down on that by trying to sneak Petty on the PS. If they're stupid enough to try that.....
This injury just saved Geno's sorry azz. The ideal situation is Fitz gets hurt and Geno leads us to the promise land. Right?
I like your confidence in Petty, but why 3 years away? If he takes that long, he won't be the guy. Unless his injury is really severe and he won't be recovered in time for TC next season, if he isn't the QB next season, or at least by 2018, he never will be.
The Jets could be throwing a curve ball to all of this IR talk. Maybe he wasn't that injured at all and they kept him out for safety purposes as they want him to be the Back-Up this year. Nothing is certain yet. Hopefully he is fine.
Huh? I never said that. He took a hit to his shoulder, you have an MRI to see if there is any damage.
so what would the jets be faking and why? I don't get what they'd have to gain from "throwing a curve".
