Slow day at work, jumped over to Vikings Nation Forum. Seems like their fan base believes Vikes make a run for Geno or Sanchez... Makes sense to sit Geno in this circumstance. The CS can get one more look to see if they are comfortable with Petty at the #2 while also ensuring Geno doesn't hurt himself.

Geno is almost certainly gone next year, FO may just want something back in return.

Bowles said we know what we have in Geno. I think he wants to see Petty play a half with the twos and then decide if Petty is good enough to take Geno's job.

I think that is pretty much the bottom line for the coaches. Geno is Geno. He looked like Geno the 3 games we saw this Preseason. How good is Petty? He has looked good, but a bigger sample size is needed. Getting Hack more reps too is good. Tomorrow's 4th Preseason game is actually more exciting than usual because of all of this.

HOWEVER remember last year's Matt Flynn vs. Josh Johnson? Flynn was fantastic in that 4th Preseason game and still both were released. The Jets just went into the season with Bryce Petty (A 4th round Rookie QB with no experience or complete knowledge of the playbook) as Fitz's back-up. So I think they would be completely fine going into the season with him as the back-up this year. We will see...........

If your starting QB is hurt your season is likely ruined anyway. Geno Smith is leaving in FA after the season anyway..

therefore: if any team offers anything in a trade for Smith the Jets should absolutely accept the offer. Move on from Geno Smith, create an extra roster spot and giving a little more responsibility to Bryce Petty would be a good thing for his development.

And they will. I still think that's the main reason he isn't playing tomorrow. He has shown nothing in pre-season so it isn't like he has earned the right to sit.

sure does the Geno haters are so blind it not funny. Yeah let's sit the guy who we may trade but risk the backup to get hurt. Makes sense to me.

Geno is horrid facts are facts except to the geno fans. If his staying on the team costs good players a roster spot then he is doubly bad...one he sucks as a qb his stats over his career speak for it self. Secondly he will hurt special teams by removing a player from that spot.
The only way I like his making the team is if the Petty injury is season ending and they IR Petty

I wonder if the Jets will put Petty on the IR if the injury is somewhat serious to end their QB conundrum. He would still be able to return after 8 weeks if they needed him.

There has been a significant change to the designated for return list. Previously, a team had to declare a player “eligible to return” upon placing the player on injured reserve. Earlier this offseason, the NFL changed the rule so that teams can bring back one player from IR after the eight weeks, without declaring them eligible to return. So, if the team has to place three players on IR at some point, they can wait and see who appears closest to return. They can still only use the move once.

The player is eligible to return to practice if he has been on the IR list for at least six weeks from the date he was placed on Reserve. He is eligible to return to the active list if he has been on the IR list for at least eight weeks from the date he is placed on Injured Reserve.

Petty definitely didn't overly impress me tonight. Only one decent drive and it was nice to see him hit the receiver in stride. O-line didn't really give him time to work with.

Hackenberg needs to be a true red shirt this year. The way I see it, the Jets are carrying 3 QBs and some laundry. Nothing to see here folks.

Sad way for this thread to end if it's stashing Petty on IR with a phantom injury.
