Funny that of all the QB's mentioned as a fit for the Vikings in place of Teddy. no one mentions any Jets in a trade ... but he're we're talking about getting a 4th rounder for Geno HA
Not true. If you click on the 911 call link in post 912 above you'll see a sidebar from Fox Sports that lists five possible replacements. Smith is one and Sanchez is another. Not that I think there will be any serious interest in Smith, but what do I know, I never played Madden or beyond Pop Warner and according to at least one guy here, that's an immediate disqualifier.
I would think if they wanted to trade Geno, they would play him right? This sounds like an endorsement that he's staying. Petty has to show up against the Eagles.
You think a team watching Smith play is a selling point? He's not playing cause they don't want him getting hurt.
or maybe they want to see him healthy? I don't think it has any bearing on any potential trade. I also highly doubt anyone is trading for him.
Like I said, he could get hurt, then we have to cut and get nothing. Even a late round pick, back-up lineman or RB is better than nothing. That one guy was Bowles, he thought Gailey could fix him.
We don't know what the other teams are thinking. To play devil's advocate here, we are going to get garbage for Geno Smith regardless of any outcome and there's no way around it. At least if you throw Geno out there he has a good game for a series or 2, maybe his stock increases and you can get something A LITTLE better. Highly doubtful, but that's a potential scenario. If he gets hurt you cut bait anyway, which is what the Jets will do next season anyway. I was really hoping to see how far the gap is between Geno and Petty.
It is very doubtful. Looks like it will be 4 QBs at the end of the day, just going over potential scenarios for the Jets.
There is no reason for the FO to do anything until after tomorrow's game. They get to see Petty / Hack in extended playing time with 1's and 2's. It gives them one final look at them in game situations. Their decision comes down to what they expect from Ftiz and what the drop off is to Geno or Petty if Fitz goes down. imho I think Fitz regresses this year and the drop off isn't that great so I wouldn't carry 4 QB's. Dak and Hill are clearly starting for the first few weeks regardless of who is brought in. If I'm the Vikes I'd rather have a veteran combo of Hill / McCown than Hill / Geno or Hill / Sanchez and I'd be tempted to say even a Hill / Mettenberger combo over Geno/Sanchez as well. Mettenberger wouldn't cost a draft pick and that team is built around running the ball and strong D similar to what the Jets were in Sanchez's first 2 years. Either go with the best vet backup (McCown) or a young guy with time in the league that can hand off the ball (Mettenberger). The best the Cowboys can hope for is being 3-3 going into the Bye and its more likely 2-4 regardless of who they bring in or who starts those games. Any record better than that is because Dak is lighting it up and the person they sign is just carrying a clipboard.
Or could be they want to give Petty an entire half to see if he can handle the QB2 position. Really no way to know for sure.
