Yeah, I think Cimini talked about it yesterday saying the Vikings and Redskins did it in 2013. Still, it is an odd thing to do.
And that win now thing is why im sure Geno stays. If they were rebuilding, id get it, and honestly it would make sense. Im what they're doing now, it doesnt. I agree hes not back next year, but he'll quickly find another team. I will disagree. Petty played against 3 stringers and guys who wont make a squad and still couldnt drive the team consistently. Im not sure how that makes him look good and Smith who engineered two of the scoring drives look bad. Just seems a little ass backwards to me. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
2013 seems incorrect though. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/min/2013_roster.htm http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/was/2013_roster.htm edit: hmmm- bunch of guys listed without positions so maybe it's one of those that makes the 4th. here it is: http://www.footballdb.com/teams/nfl/minnesota-vikings/roster/2013?sort=pos but Washington only shows 3 on that site.
I think it comes down to experience. A 2nd round pick, entering his 4th season, with 2 years of starting experience looking similar to a 4th round pick, entering his 2nd season is what was troubling to some fans. I will say it was just 1 preseason game though. Nothing wrong with fans being encouraged by Petty's play and slightly disappointed with Geno's. You mention the scoring drives, but had to see that Petty led the team down the field too. Good game for both, despite Geno's shaky start.
And thats ultimately my point, it didnt separate anyone. Nobody was terrible. It just leaves room for improvement. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Looks like we have the same "Sanchez sucks vs. Sanchez just need more time" argument going on. We know how that ended. It seems if anyone in the FO had faith in Geno, they would have locked him down to a contract extension this year, before we had to deal with a bidding war with other teams after next season.
I think Sanchez needs more time, he has a good HC in Denver, with a system that fits his style as a QB. He should definitely fulfill his potential this year.
I think any logical fan realizes this is Geno's last season with the Jets. The question is does he benefit the team enough as the #2 to warrant a roster spot over Bryce Petty in 2016? Hard to say at this point.
A couple of degrees up the curve for Petty and it could be sooner than later. I'd still want Geno this year, ideally. However, a continuing rise up the curve for Petty would be a beautiful thing. I suppose he could level off too. He had some baby steps to take initially, so the improvement shown is still fundamental. I get the feeling that these issues are already long addressed and witnessed within the team, and we're now witnessing it. Geno just doesn't look to be a part of the team like he should to me. A fresh start somewhere else would do him better in the end either way
It all depends on how much progress Petty has made. If they think there isn't much difference between Petty and Smith, it makes more sense to keep an extra WR than an extra QB - especially given the talent it looks like we have at WR this year. If Petty just isn't ready they have to keep Smith one more year. The Devin Smith pup situation could potentially delay the decision up to 6 weeks.
Hey oh! Good one. Haha. I don't think anyone dislikes Geno to dislike him. I think some fans have just seen enough of him. I'd love for him to play great against the Redskins and separate himself from Petty. That is what he should be doing. I want him to play so well that fans say "Maybe he should be starting over Fitz!" He just has not done that yet. Having said that, I want the same for Petty and eventually Hackenberg.
Jalin's 86 yard KR engineered the first scoring drive. But I generally agree with you. Petty has to show more to make me think he's caught up with Geno.
The third of Geno's drives was the first where he could open up - 1st started on the 14 yrd line and Bowles was very conservative in play calling. Second was unlucky as Peake should have had a flag called due to late hit by Jack and he could have settled in. I think he was unnerved on first game back in Met Life but looked really good after Jags swapped out a lot of their D in 2nd half. However T Bowles has been clear on the pecking order and each will have to make MAJOR strides either forward or backward for TB to change Fitz Geno Petty Hack Fans can like or dislike but this is the reality barring MAJOR disruption
lol. Did Bowles tell you that? What is the roster positional breakdown going to look like with 4 QB's on it?
Bowles did say in his presser after practice today that there is no competition. Geno is #2 and Petty is #3. Of course he would not say otherwise over 1 preseason game, but still.
Petty will never have a true chance playing with that sieve of an OL. The defense is all over him 2 seconds after the ball is snapped.
It is WR'S, but not just. That spot could be used for another O lineman or anywhere else we need to carry an extra guy.
