then they should cut bait now and end it invest the time with the players who actually produce. I am curious how he plays the next game if he craps himself again what then. I have to say the Staff is giving him every chance and he keeps blowing it
I think Bohanon and Kenbrell could possibly stick. Dozier and Trevor Reilly (for special teams as well) but I think your 53 looks pretty good.
Bohannon seems like such a waste to me. I would cut him even if we didn't have the 4 QB dilemma Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I'm curious...what about Thomas makes you think he will make the roster? I don't know much about him, and don't recall hearing his name being called that much in TC or preseason games. Do you think he makes it over S. Harris, or do you see the Jets keeping 8 DL?
Thanks. Yeah, I'll be surprised if Bohanon doesn't stick. Bowles really seems to like him, but I'm mystified why. Thompkins could stick as well, but I'd be disappointed if he sticks rather than the 3 rookies and/or Ross since Thompkins doesn't play STs, is 28 already and probably won't be on the team in 2 years (if next year even). Dozier could make it over Wesley Johnson, but I don't see both sticking. At this point, I can't see Reilly sticking. He's so far down the OLB depth chart, and isn't better than any of the OLBs I kept. I can't see the Jets keeping 9 LBs, and it would be criminal imo to keep Reilly over J. Marshall, Peake, R. Anderson, Carter or Bishop.
He first really caught my eye on a few plays during our first preseason game. I didn't know who the hell he was but there was one play in particular when he was rushing the QB off the edge (I believe he had a knockdown and nearly blocked the pass attempt) that made me really stand up and take notice at which point I made a mental note to follow his progress in camp. He's almost 290 lbs of solid muscle and a superb athlete with excellent strength and run stopping ability. From what I've been hearing, TB and our other coaches have been pretty impressed with him. Of course, he's an entirely different type of DL than Shelby whom I consider to be a true NT in the mold of Snacks and Simon. I really like (and hope we keep) Harris, Simon and Thomas. I think the first two can emerge as classic run stuffing NTs with the potential to consistently blow up running plays by penetrating the backfield whereas I feel Thomas has legitimate upside potential as both a pass rushing and run stopping DE in the versatile style/manner of Williams, Wilk and Shel. He's still very much a work in progress as a serious pass rushing threat but I believe he has a bright future ahead of him. As far as practice squad assignments vs the 53 man roster, I think Thomas might have a slight advantage over Harris due to his versatility and experience playing on the edge (in 4-3 and 3-4 alignments) and inside (on 4-3 fronts). Having said that, I really like the flashes of potential shown by Harris and Simon thus far in contrast to what I've been seeing up 'til now from former Steelers veteran NT McLendon.
Thanks. I'll look for what Thomas does in these last two games. At this point, I'm not certain that the Jets would keep either, but sure can't see the Jets keeping both Harris and Thomas on the roster. I don't know about practice, but in the preseason games thus far, I think Harris has shown more. In addition, Harris has been in the NFL for 2 years and may not be PS eligible. Thomas is a rookie and is eligible. I doubt if anyone would claim him. I think if one of them makes the roster, it will be Harris, with Thomas going to the PS. You could be right, however. It will be interesting to see what happens.
You could very well be right. I was wrong about Harris' size and weight which, when watching him in action during the preseason games, believed him to be considerably taller and heavier than he actually is. At 6'2", and around 290lbs, he's a mite shorter and considerably lighter than I first thought although he does have really long arms which compensates somewhat for his less than ideal height for a DL. While Harris was definitely very active during the games (particularly against the Jags), he missed several tackles in the backfield as well as what should have been sacks due to having left his feet off the ground despite clearly having his hands on the ball carrier. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, if you haven't been doing so already, keep your eyes on Bishop and Carter as well.....
Anybody else find it ironic that Fitz, Petty, and Hack all had Geno-type TOs tonight? This fucking team.
lets cut the rookie some slack, like the Butthead Buttle said, he probably hasn't even had red zone opportunities in practice. They are going to fix his footwork but he throwing some zingers out there that guys couldnt catch
Hackenberg was betrayed by play calling. 3rd and 7 in the red zone they ran? 3rd and 7 pinned at his own goal line they threw? That is on the coaches. Not him. Petty played good. His Pick-6 could not have been less lucky. That happens in life. Fitz's fumble, caused by Snacks, was unfortunate but he made a nice TD pass to Decker later.
If Petty sucks in Game 4 like he did last night, I wouldn't be surprised to see him a FA to start the season. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Petty goes out and throws a Sanchez-esque pick 6 on a fucking screen when they're almost in the red zone. What a disaster.
Yeah that was definitely the worst we've seen on him. The only question I had with that play was where was Bohannon supposed to be? It didn't seem like Tommy and Petty were in sync there.
That was his worst performance of the preseason. That throw fucking pissed me off, there's really no excuse for it. He was also off on his accuracy early but still made some nice plays. If it were my decision I'd still roll with Petty at 2. I just don't see much value in keeping Geno on the last year of his contract when there's seemingly little to no upside over Petty.
I find it hard to imagine anyone offering anything for him. We save over a million on the cap if we cut him. http://overthecap.com/player/geno-smith/2249/
I pulled back that post. Made the post first before looking at his numbers again and then realized it wasn't totally accurate. Yeah, I think at this point they need to take a hard look at whether to roster him or not.
