Weird. Earlier in the week he wouldn't answer the question and instead said "we have a plan we're going to follow". Previously he just said what the depth chart was. Maybe he was considering Petty at 2 but he didn't do something well enough.

Possibly, but it didnt sound like Petty had alot of reps at practice this week either. I really wanted to see Petty play against the 2's to see how he measured up. Seen Geno... too much of Geno in my opinion.

So Geno gets another chance which is probably for the best. I expect him to take advantage of it. Also for those who are worried about Fitz calm down. He hasn't been good but he hasn't done anything bad either. Look around the league at the starters' preseason numbers, a lot of them have been as boring as Fitz (Eli for one). If you think Fitz will regress fine, but using his preaseason play as evidence is illogical.

I'm not a fan of Fitz as you know, but i couldnt agree more. It's preseason.

I expect we see hack play 3 quarters in game 4. with petty starting it. I think game 3 will be 3 quarters fitz and geno in the 4th.

We're keeping 4 QBs or IRing Hack

Smart to have Geno as the backup and smart to keep Petty on the roster for the future.\

Not sure why Geno would be the backup in the 3rd Preseason game if you weren't planning on him having the same job in the regular season

Geno is being given every opportunity to make this team as the backup QB. Can't say I blame TB on this as Geno is still the experienced #2. However, I think Geno's leash has gotten a lot shorter due to Petty's performance and if we see Bad Geno show up, TB will be a lot less hesitant to make the switch. Geno really needs a good game against the Giants. I mean he REEAAALLLY needs a good game against the Giants. His Jet career depends on it..

A chance to save himself? No pressure though.

He needs a good game but he's going up be the back up regardless. I can't stress this enough. Petty has played against inferior talent in the preseason. The coaches take this into account. When you see petty in before Geno, then I'd think something. But that doesn't sound like it's gonna happen given Geno got first for team reps this week in practice again. Now that doesnt mean hes starting, but it definitely means hes gonna be the back up.

I fail to get the point of preseason as there has been nothing Petty can do about playing against inferior talent other than lighting those defenses up (which he basically did last week). I guess the only real evaluations that take place is if Scrubby McScrubster or Scrubs McGee gets that 53th spot or not..

Well thats kinda the thing. Petty is stuck and there's nothing he can do. The staff has their mind made up apparently. Whether or not anyone likes it, it's the pragmatic decision. The one they should make.

I still don't believe this. Hard to argue against your logic about 3rd PS game but I still think something is up.

The Jets are waiting for a team to have an injured backup QB for a trade partner.

If the decision is to keep 4 QB's, I get it but I don't like it. If the decision is to keep Geno and cut Petty, it would be an embarrassment. Again, I hope Geno does play good on Saturday and the Jets can feel solid about him as the #2, but if he does not, he needs to go because I have 0% faith that he can keep the ship afloat if Fitz goes down. I'd rather roll with Petty than Geno at this point. It comes down to the future really. The Jets will live or die in 2016 by Ryan Fitzpatrick. 2017 I would like to see Petty and Hackenberg on the roster.

Hard to imagine anyone giving up a pick for Geno Smith though.

It's not about draft picks. It's about will a team be desperate enough to offer a whole box of Twinkies to the Jets for him? The current offer of one half eaten Twinkie is pretty good value, but the Jets want more.

Yeah but we all need to realize Petty had has really only had one good preseason game. That doesnt mean he's ready. We gotta see him against higher talent before its replace Geno.

Unfortunately tho youre correct. We're gonna live and die by Fitz, who hasnt been particularly impressive at any point in the off season. None have been which is the scary thought.

I guess we'll find out soon enough. I'm not buying any notion or idea that Geno will be here next year and Petty won't. I've seen the idea thrown out there and I would be flabbergasted that Petty wold be moved. Yes, flabbergasted.

    No way
