I agree.....my only comment is both these guys have what seems to be the same head problems, attitudes, demeaners, and both were thrown out there day one. All we need is for Bowles to implement red/yellow/green cards for Geno and the circle will be complete! This is why I SOOO glad we're playing Petty (and now Hack) correctly under the guidance of a true vet QB (Who still plays the game, and not with his grandkids in the backyard).
This is a fantastically vacuum point of view. Bryce Petty is not Brooks Bollinger from the standpoint of talent, potential, or team investment. You mentioned context but failed to frame any around Bryce Petty. The Jets traded up in the 4th round for his physical talents and intangibles. They knew at the beginning of the process that the return on investment in Petty would not be immediate, but that when the payoff eventually came around, it could potentially far exceed the value expended in what they traded to get him and his draft spot. This is not to say Petty will pan out but to compare him to Brooks Bollinger because, preseason derp, is really lazy.
Good write up this morning on Jets.com for Petty and WR Anderson (walk on). Give it a watch/listen....u'll feel better afterwards: http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...Offense-/a9208389-5a7a-41be-8cf3-47c97e2ca5a6
Petty put up good numbers last night, which is nice to see, but preseason numbers can be misleading. However, I also saw that he has the kind of personality that makes his teammates want to work hard for him. That matters, and unlike preseason stats, it's definitely not a mirage.
The stuff about it only being preseason and not playing with the 1's...pretty funny. You're supposed to be able to succeed in preseason games, that's why they cut the guys who don't succeed in preseason. If you can't at least give a reasonable performance in preseason no matter what team you're on...you're gone, unless of course the team invested too much money in you... Garoppolo didn't have his best guys on the field with him...No Gronkowski, no Edelman, no Amendola...but his completion percentage was something like 79%, no int's, coupla TD's... I posted a link to youtube video of Geno int's, but there is also another one of his TD's. Look at both of them. He does the same thing with both...he decides ahead of time who he is going to throw to, then if the guy is covered it's an int, if he's not it's a completion. If he's under pressure it's a doink off the ground or way off to the left or right. The guy simply can't play the position, and because he can't play and does dumb stuff over and over, of course it affects his attitude and the attitude of his teammates. He may find success in some other kind of offense on another team, but he's done here. Ron
Those problems really are mental though. He can physically make any throw on the field, can outrun any of our signal callers, he just doesn't know how to use those tools. He's inept.
Now I get it. Geno struggles mightily in a game, therefore there is no hope at the QB position. Thanks for clearing that up, Genotr011
Last night, I was disgusted by Geno's facial expressions and body language, the former of which conveyed (to my eyes at least) the sour-pussed, complacency and indifference of an immature, spoiled child filled with an overblown sense of bratty self pity. This is in contrast to my observations of his expressions in previous years when things went badly for him wherein he would appear (much like a boxer having just risen after being brutally knocked out) utterly lost, disoriented and dumbfounded despite his generally acknowledged favorable/acceptable levels of both overall and football related intelligence, neither of which he's been able to reliably and consistently carry with him on the field of play. I've personally seen enough. I wish him all the success in the future but honestly believe (that for the foreseeable future) he desperately lacks the emotional and mental fortitude as well as the acute focus necessary to fulfill whatever potential he has to perform as a very good QB in the NFL.
QBs can have two mind sets: Determined to make great plays, or afraid to make mistakes. In games that have gone our way and we were on a roll, Geno felt no pressure and played with the first mind set, make great plays, and he did. In most games however, especially when the offense is under duress and the ball is not bouncing our way, Geno plays determined not to throw that killer int that loses the game. When under pressure, he plays to avoid the loss and the blame that goes with it. He can't help it. Most of us would do the same thing. As a few other posters have pointed out, when the going gets tough, Geno can't help but lose his hot hand and he goes into a shell that almost per-determines the outcome. Sanchez does/did the same thing....play not to lose, unless the game is a good blowout then both Geno and Mark loosen up and can do great. It's really hard to find a QB that can still play lose with no panic when all hell's breaking lose and he's getting killed almost every play.
Sanchez was way better than Geno and his best games came under pressure whereas Geno's came when we were essentially eliminated from any type of contention against Swiss cheese defenses like the Browns and Falcons (although the Atlanta game was nationally televised on MNF). He's a bad quarterback there's really no way to spin it. In response to your most recent post, those are all the makings of a bad quarterback. He also has some of the worst pocket presence I've ever seen, and it hasn't gotten better at all, as it's really a skill a quarterback either has or doesn't have. It's incredibly hard for a guy to suddenly be able to feel the rush.
Petty outplayed Geno by a landslide last night and even though Geno looked solid in game one, he didn't outplay Petty by much and forced one of his patented throws that almost lead to an interception. What are you going to do when they cut him in another week?
That's not comforting that a QB being paid $12m is allowed to play like shit but a QB on a rookie contract can't. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
Again, Fitz didn't really play like shit, at least not nearly as shitty as Geno. Maybe go back and rewatch if you really think that. Of course Geno can't play like shit. He's fighting for a roster spot with a guy the new FO just drafted last year. They have given every indication that they don't give a rats ass about Geno and it's on him to prove they should. So far he hasn't. Time is running out, in fact, it may be out.
Geno played like shit but so did Fitz You would expect the starter to drive the offense down the field atleast one time and it was a shitfest that started with Fitz....I'm sick of being down 10-3 at half every time we play a good defensive team with Fitz at the helm.....Arent you guys? To be fair they both played OK the first game
Let not forget Petty should had been picked off also. If they cut him then they cut him. I'm a Jet fan first and I don't care who playing I will support them. I just want the Jets to win. If it with Fitz cool. If it with Geno cool. If it with Petty cool. Or somebody who not even on the roster now.
Fitz's passes last night: 1st & 10: Hits Marshall in the hands 15 yards over the middle, dropped pass. 3rd & 9: Overthrows Tompkins down the sideline - possibly a miscommunication on the route, but let's call it a bad throw. 1st & 10: Hits amaro for 4 yard gain 2nd & 15: Hits Davis for a strike 12 yards down the middle and Davis fumbles it and Washington recovers. 1st & 10: Hits marshall on WR screen. This looks like it was supposed to be a run but Fitz changed it because marshall had easy yards. It worked for 5 on first down. 2nd & 5: Nice completion to decker about 10 & 1st down. 1st & 10: Hits Amaro in the hands on an out. He drops it. 2nd & 10: Misses Tompkins on a low pass when he had to change his throwing angle last second due to DL in his face. Bad pass, but kind of a smart play - similar to throwing ball OOB. If he doesn't change his angle the pass gets tipped which a lot of times ends in INT's. 3rd & 10: Hits powell short on checkdown after quick pressure and powell drops it because he's looking where he's running before catching it. Nothing special from Fitz last night. He had 1 bad pass & a second one that was a smart bad pass - kind of like a throw out of bounds. To say he played like shit is silly IMO.
OK he didn't play like shit but he didn't do anything at all to inspire and was particularly bad on 3rd down His job is to lead the offense down the field and I'm just sick of the slow starts....Last season that is why we didn't make the playoffs....against any defense that had a pulse we would limp into halftime in a low scoring shit fest....then we would eventually come back a little and Fitz would end up throwing picks to end the game (Texans, Bills, Eagles, Bills).....Even in games we ended up winning this scenario was all too familiar (Cowboys stands out) I'm not blaming it all on Fitz but he's gotta take most of the blame.....enough with the slow starts, we can't afford them with the teams we got lined up to start the season. We need urgency right off the bat
