Transition tag would pay him like a top 10 QB. That would be ridiculous. He's not going to play well. He still has shit footwork and it's going to continue to cause him to be painfully inconsistent. His footwork isn't going to be fixed any time soon. Hopefully Petty is ready so we can cut bait with him before the season starts.
At the end of the day, the QBs that give us the better chance to win, be it a starter or back up will be activated on game day. Booes for Geno particularly this year are totally unwarranted and a clear indication of a fan base that puts personal emotions ahead of the team success, which in my view is BS. What he did or didn't do in the past means two shits for this year. Sanchez under similar stupid starting circumstances got the same treatment. We should have booed the fuck out of our previous CS and incompetent GM INSTEAD. Having said that, we have two young PROMISING QBs that were brought in to mature and develop under a decent OC and HC for a change. So unless the CS has already determined that one or both can't grow into the position ( extremely unlikely) or don't see sufficient promise in their present performance, they will and must stay protected. So from my perspective it will boil down to two options, do they see enough with Petty to trust him with the back up roll, or do we keep 4 QBs. In either case, once the team is formed, we should root hard to make all of them successful, yes including Geno. Because he is a Jet just like the rest of them.
I personally wouldn't be booing our own players because that's just not me, but I think it's laughable to pretend like it wasn't warranted. Geno was playing like hot garbage up to the point he got booed. Fans are sick of him sucking, and that's how some react.
Did you notice that he actually threw the ball out of bounds a couple of times rather than taking a sack or running out of bounds for a loss? Geno's retarded ass still hasn't figured that one out.
Sometimes I feel like I'm living in the twilight zone. I've had interactions with people here and in person who, pre-draft, were starkly opposed to drafting a QB because we already had Petty on the roster and he was "the QB of the future". Then the draft happens, we select Hackenberg, and those same people think Petty sucks and is lined up for the chopping block. Wtf? If our GM has this same sort of ADD thinking then we're already fucked and nothing matters. When you draft a developmental project, guess what folks, you have to develop them! That doesn't happen in one year. Progress is made slowly with the understanding that the payoff is worth it. Specifically to Petty, he has the size, arm strength, mobility, and intelligence you want in an NFL caliber QB. His lacking is not having enough experience in NFL schemes and methodologies. Geno Smith is a guy who likely should have also been a developmental project, but that's not how it played out for him, and that's why now we see a QB with brief flashes of potential and otherwise booing worthy performance. The cart was put ahead of the horse and he's ultimately paid the price for that failure. Personally, I think our new front office is savvy and intelligent, and will play their cards right with Petty so that he's actually put in a position to succeed. I'd be completely shocked if they dumped him for some bottom feeding scrub who isn't in the teams long term vision. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Connor Hughes, it was one of his articles will need to find it. Regardless, I highly doubt Petty will be cut, but like I said his roster spot ain't guaranteed. As long as he can show he can understand the system and play the QB position and not mess it up he will be on the roster. If he cannot that is your major issue.
yes, yes I am absolutely you got me! Think about it. Say by some crazy chance he actually has a good season, are you going to sign him to a long-term contract? Maybe he will accept a team friendly one, but I would rather tag him and prove to me he can go out there and do it again. I am talking like 35 TDs, 60% completion, 10 INTs Jets ain't letting a player like that go. You would be the high one if you think that would happen. A lot of close minded Jet fans in this topic I see.
In that scenario, yes, i would agree, but the chances of that happening are near 0. Let;s see how Kirk Cousins plays out this year on the tag... He is basically what you are modeling this after.
If Geno had a breakout season like that the Jets would be foolish to not lock him up long term. That said, it's obviously a wild stretch of the imagination.
What if Dee Milliner leads the league in INTs, makes 1st team all pro, and is PFF's highest ranked corner? Who do we tag then?
You are not in a good spot if your starting QB goes down. How much better is Geno to Petty is the question we have all been asking though.
Yes, but I thought for at least one of them, the situation dictated that he should go down, and keep the clock running. It's pre-season, and that's an easy thing to correct, but I'm with you. I really like his presence and awareness.
I didn't notice the situation you're talking about - probably because I don't really pay attention to the score in the PS.
Considering his injury history, that contract better be full of "games played" incentives. If I can get Milliner to take a discount, sure why not. It would be nice for him to become our future #1 corner.
