Geno just looked the best he has in ages vs the jags and we are talking about cutting or demoting him? He threw some fkin lasers. I was honestly thinking he finally might be ready after seeing those throws. He will be one of the top back ups in the league this season. Petty looked nice too don't get me wrong, but I did not find myself saying " this guy may be ready" during his possessions.

He did look better than forever, yet just as good as no 3 guy. Tells you about his vs Petty development?

my bottom line is who do you want to go in once fitz goes down (and you know it will happen, this is the nfl)

I want an experinced back up

Geno fits very well for me.

The bottom line is that it's completely irrelevant who goes in when Fitz goes down.

I can see argument of keeping Geno for just this case to give him one final on-field evaluation. The price of this however is carrying 4 QBs and thus dropping someone else. IMO too high of a price for another evaluation.

I don't think sacrificing the 7th ol, wr, db who probably doesn't even dress on sunday is too much if you think the 4th qb has starter potential. I actually think its a good idea, why not buy an extra chance at hitting on the most important position?

Normally I'd agree, QB being the most important position. This year however looks like Jets have a very good WRs group and need depth on OL. It's going to come down to Bowles decision: keep 4 QBs, or keep someone like Ross. IMO, if Geno separated himself from Petty (or Petty falls off, however you wanna look at it) in the next 3 weeks, FO will keep all QBs. Otherwise Geno is gone.

I got a feeling that 4th PS game vs. Eagles will be a must-watch this year.

I don't think we have to get rid of a WR, OL or DB to keep 4 QBs on the roster. The worst player should be cut, plain and simple. I think either Kellen Davis or Tommy Bohanon need to go.

I.m.o the onus is on petty to outplay geno by enough to make geno expendable. Unless that happens they will carry 4.

The same could be said of Geno.
Geno's never going to be a starter for us again, he may stay thi
Normally I would disagree, but since you worked in "onus" I'm siding with you.

Geno is not worth trading, no one is going to offer anything for him, maybe a 7th rounder at best. The way I see it. We already know what we have in Geno, if hes the starter at any point this season, you know the season is a lost cause. At that point, the season should be used for developmental purposes. Hence, I want to see Petty in there. He looked good on Thursday. Often throwing to second and third reads, plus showing a lot of leadership qualities. You could also hear it in his voice during the cadence. Geno on the other hand dogged it out there. Two 3andOuts, and his stats lie with that screen passs that went for 60 yards. He should have looked head over heels better than everyone out there. No one in this braintrust has any loyalty to him, thus I think he is gone if Bryce continues to play well.

the back end of our o-line group is replacement level, we will be able to replace one easily if needed ... also, due to enunwas positional versatility, we dont need to carry three TEs

the roster will be great shape with four QBs

So for Geno to be cut, I think they should be about equal, you think Petty has to outplay him. Fair enough.

I did like your point (I think it was yours) that they might try to showcase Geno. In practice it'll look Geno is THE man, from fans' perspective. Would be interesting topic of conversation.

I too saw the interview with Casserly - he was ADAMANT that the only thing the FO were doing was looking at Petty to ascertain what they have - the reports from the first week of camp were anything but positive. Ober the past two weeks he has begun to look like he belongs as an NFL QB - I said BEGUN TO LOOK - he is not there yet but is improving.

As many of the Geno haters have said keeping 4 QBs is not the best strategy - even more so when you see the tight competition this team is having at multiple spots - but this FO has shown over the past 16 months that it understands how to build effectively so I will trust in their knowledge and decision making until they prove otherwise.
Who saw or heard of the Mo deal being done until it was done? Not only did they get it done for less than others in 2016 they got a good deal that dovetails other player's contract status nicely (Sheldon & Leo)
Many of the deals have little guaranteed money after the second year
They resigned Fitz but were able to not have to touch anyone else's deal AND fit it under the cap. By the way a lot of the Geno haters seem to have forgotten that they gave Fitz a take it leave it by 19:00 offer - in other words they were willing to move on from him.

If Geno does not play then he could resign with the Jets but more probably he will go elsewhere in 2017 and we as fans should hope Petty or Hack step to become our QB - or maybe just maybe (fans always hope for the unrealistic outcome) we end up like the 49ers who had Montana and Young on their roster for a while. However for 2016 he is signed to the final year of his rookie contract and give you a "cheap" back up who.

Casserly was very focused in his comments on the fact that Geno has had a year with Gailey - for me he is the X factor in our Offence. Fita is adequate but has only ever shone in a Gailey Offence. I want to see Geno get some pre-season reps with the 1's away from Met Life where he may just get more confidence to see if he has improved the way we hear the "talking heads" tell us they see he has.

I understand that it is Fitz's job to loose but I have no issue in supporting ALL 90 current Jets and hoping they do well - there are fans from 31 other teams who can be negative but as a fan of this Franchise I hope that all 4 QBs shine and all look like franchise QBs, I hope all WRs look like either Megatron or Jerry Rice (Wesley Walker or Al Toon would do too) - hope you get the point

I support the Jets - and for the time being the FO - and that includes both Fitz & Geno

I could also take it as the Jets were still offering 15 million dollars to a guy 1 min before the start of camp.

Yes it was clear they wanted him back - read all the post and in particular where I acknowledge Fitz is the FO's preferred starting QB - BUT they did not want him at any cost and not if he did not sign then they would move on - not how you treat a franchise QB. Also did not have to mess with giving others additional guaranteed money to restructure their deals to get it done

Again I like how this FO works and will trust them

I think that's the logical answer in the end. Several people have stated how it could be done.

Anything should happen to Fitz I would like to have Geno and Petty still. Geno's experience counts for something too, although I don't believe he's improved much myself.

Petty took some baby steps. But now I want to see him continue up the curve. The fact that he has exhibited a degree of advancement is exciting. I don't think Geno has.
