Yes he was one of our best. It's not your fault you weren't here when he was. It was tragic, and i believe it was his father that came online to inform us. RIP Green Guy!
The Green Guy memorial stickie was one of the first things I noticed when I registered here. I've always wondered about him. I guess I knew he had died, but I wondered... how do people know that? Is someone his friend or something? How was the board informed? Well, now I know. So weird how technology can create these strangely poignant situations. Someone you've never met, but come to respect, even think of as a friend... and then his father comes on... that is hardcore. Wow. (also ... really nice op)
Great thread Abyz. Unfortunately I am not one of the intelligent football posters but reading this forum certainly helps increase my knowledge. One thing I want to add, while we are on a TGG appreciation e-hug, is that this forum is one of the most pleasing to the eye and easy to read that I have ever seen. I'm talking mainly about the ads, or lack of them to be exact. Most other fora are littered with all manner of advertising, multi coloured, and shoved inbetween posts. This site has only 3 green coloured banner ads disguised at the top of each page. This is something to be thankfull for and everyone should make the effort to click on these modest adverts whenever they can, to help Petro keep the format just the way it is.
1st I apologize it this is too long....... Great post Abyz.............never knew Green Guy but RIP anyway. I lurked for quite some time. I hated Herm and Bradway and just didn't want to waste my time debating why they sucked. Then the Jets promoted MT and hired Mangini. I thought they had a great draft in 2006 and finally saw good signs in training camp and felt compelled to sign up here. Too bad it took me 2 3/4 to realize how bad Mangini was. Herm was easy to see through. Mangini was more difficult for me, my bad. Anyway, I took a wait and see on Rex. Well I waited and saw that Houston game against a high powered team the pundits gave the Jets no hope of stopping @ their home. That was all I needed to push my chips in the center betting on this coach, front office, players and in general team. You can see and feel the difference from last year. There isn't going to be any collapse. I signed up @ the other two places but one is a cesspool of negativity (still) and the other has so much idiocy that it takes too much work to find good posts...... not to mention that they go out of their way to make it difficult on people that find no value paying for a site run by idiots. Which leads to my conclusion............................... I have made a bunch of good friends here and some enemies because well yeah I can be a douchebag, there ain't no way around that. I take that route way too much. Sorry about that. This site is by far the best for all around football talk and like it or not, to fuck around and bust peoples balls. Thank god too, as this place makes my nights so much more tolerable, tbh my wife is very very sick. (not trying to garner sympathy, it is what it is). With that............. TGG has everything. So thank you everybody, this place is wonderful. Now everyone please gfy!
I joined back in 2000. There was only a few people posting here before me: Champ, Green Guy, Mathew3E (he hasn't posted here in YEARS), and a few others. As one of the original members of this site, and a long time admin, I've seen this site go through many cycles. Right now is one of the best I have every seen. Many people rewatch and post breakdowns of various aspects of the game. There are excellent gameplanning threads for upcoming games. And there are always excellent post game discussions. And all of this has brought back many long time posters. I saw Ellis-92 posting, Mezz has posted a few times, and AbdulSalaam has been posting again. In addition, many of the guys who never went away are posting excellent threads. It's a joy to go over the threads in teh morning with nmy coffee, and it has encouraged me to post more myself, not that that is anything special. Thanks for making this such a great board, fellas.
1- thanks abyz for stating the obvious so elequantly. nicely done. 2- rip green guy 3- i've also noticed an improvement in the quality of posts from other team's coming in to visit. of course we still get the trolls, but we also get the 'other intelligent fan' who actually seem to enjoy intelligent discussions (rethib?)
I wish I had been more active when I first joined or found this site sooner. I remember Green Guy, but not well enough. R.I.P., I'm sure he'd be loving Sancho and the Jets this season. What? edit: oh, nvm I see what you're getting at
