Both backs offer zero big play ability- you cant take a running back every season and hit on zero and expect to keep your job. You cant draft fullbacks and expect to keep your job.

This whole "development" stuff is crap bad teams say. Stephen Hill is most likely going to be a bust. These guys dont develop...its either they have it or they dont. You can tell in players rookie seasons if theyre going to be there long term. You could tell Wilkerson had skills last year.

No. But that doesn't mean that the organization necessarily benefits in any way at all by firing everybody every 3-4 years - its a very stupid and neurotic way to run an organization. Continuity, working together to improve and fix what is broken and rectifying poor performance internally w/o freaking out and firing everybody is how successful organizations operate. Firing everybody is the sign of a shitty owner.

NO - not after only 3 seasons. Thats nuts. I wouldn't have hired mangini in the first place, but certainly wouldn't have fired him after 3 seasons. If you want to just fire coaches every 3 seasons your team will perpetually suck.

so some of you guys are using the argument that you cant fire everyone every 3 or 4 years.

is that the entire basis of your argument?

you do also realize that mike tannenbaum has been the jets gm since 2006 right? thats a little more than 3 or 4 years.

The bold is my thinking. The team is in a tough spot this offseason. The primary reason this season missed the playoffs was lack of talent. That falls on the GM. The primary reason the Jets missed the year before, lack of talent again and overspending on some players. The FO seems to not have a long term plan. I would be upset if we kept everything status quo, but at the same time I don't think blowing everything up is the solution either. I think if Norv is able, you grab him because he is better than Sparano. I think you test the waters on GM also. If nobody is there, keep TAnny because if someone can loophole us out of this cap situation, it's Tanny.

Continuity helps, but also realizing when someone has run their course and making a change also helps. You need to be able to let someone go and keep on moving on without it causing the franchise to step back. You don't stick with someone just for continuity sake but you don't fire someone for the opposite reaosn either.

Rex & Mr.T have had No losing seasons and 2 trips to the AFCCG. This season will be the first losing season they've had and that sucks of course and of course there are challenges that need to be addressed. But if the organization is going to take the position that everybody is going to get fired after 1 losing season - then this team will perpetually suck as long as woody is running it w/that kind of a jackass philosophy. Also when you run an organization that way - talented people don't want to work for you - it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy if you insist in firing everybody as soon as you have 1 losing season. Smarten up and think about continuity, long term success and not terminating people for 1 bad season.

You also have to address what caused the bad season and try to fix it. That's what this GM search is I believe. One of the main problems of this season was money and resources tied up in the QB without having a good QB, nothing addressing the OL to help them out until Week 4 in the preseason which was addition by subtraction barely. The lack of speed at LB is going to be addressed after the fact it became a problem like the WR position was addressed after it became a problem and was patched up in Week 14 of this season.

If Tanny goes to Woody and says this is the plan to get the team back on track, we are going to do this this and this and add this and this and so on, keep him to implement it. But if Tanny's fixes are going to be trading up and signing FAs to plug in holes, you have to consider going away from that strategy and going towards a different approach from this team's FO

This losing season is not an anomaly. If they cannot find a decent stop-gap QB, O-line, RB and WR help, they will perform the same next year, probably worse.

You are looking at the body of work but you have to look at the trend.

The trend in the last 3 seasons is that the Jets have been increasingly more unsuccessful, season by season.

The team will perpetually suck with Woody as the owner. No owner with any judgement would have tolerated the investment that was made in their franchise QB and the off season circus that was created.

Tannenbaum has drafted 2 failed franchise QB's and kept the same OC and QB coach who failed to develop the first one develop the second one. Rex and Tanny allowed Callahan our only competent offensive coach to walk and replaced him with another bad hire.

Tanny deserves to be fired, Rex should get the opportunity to be retained or fired by the new GM. The real problem is Woody making the hire without the league stepping in.

This team crashed down the stretch last year and with the season on the line lost to a very bad TN team and came home and lost to an equally crappy SD team ready to lay down with any sustained effort. Rex has lost his QB, his staff and the team. Tanny has hung Rex out to dry but Rex has taken it.

Tanny started out good. He deserves all the credit in the world for building that '09 and '10 team with high character, smart, savvy veterans (Faneca, Woody, T-Rich, TJones, etc.). He made some great trades too (a 5th rounder for Holmes, 3rd/5th for Cromartie, and a 4th for Braylon).

His drafting record of recent coupled with a couple contract extensions that look poor in hindsight (Holmes, Sanchez) is what's doing him in. The cutting of those same veteran players doesn't look smart either.

Exactly. If you look at any sport, the teams that are constantly winning have a level of stability. The jets average a new coach every 3 years which means they have a new identity/philosophy every few years.

Regarding the Jets and developing players, the organization needs to make decisions that will have long term ramifications in a good way. Who cares what a bunch of impatient delusional fans think. If you make decisions to cater to an inpatient fanbase you lost already.

I best most posters here would disagree with this statement; he has all the physical skills, he's just raw and needs to practice catching the football.

    Good news for you guys...

I think Woody will hire a new GM that is amenable to working with Rex in the short term.

It's not Rex's fault that his team has no talent on it.

Should have been fired ages ago for keeping Hunter on your team...

Yeah thats what Im really hoping for. Start looking for a GM that is okay keeping Rex. I think a GM could work with that. Find a way to build a respectable offense and the D will be there to make us a playoff team again.

You don't build dynasties in the NFL by trading away draft picks. You build dynasties by stockpiling draft picks. I want a GM that understands this.

  19. Excuse me? Both Greene & Powell have had plenty of big plays between the 2. They are big physical downhill runners. Rex wants ground & pound. IE ball control, wear the defense down. That's exactly what Powell & Greene bring. If you want Barry Sanders you have the wrong head coach

"Development" is not crap. And your comment about Hill is likely a bust proves my point. Players get bigger, stronger & improve in areas every year. Hill will be no exception. Get a clue.
