He would have more yardage if Edwards doesn't drop so many big plays. You ask any QB to only throw 16 times or so a game and take out 3 plays including his biggest and of course their stats won't be good.
He had one of his better games of the season and was impressive. As long as he doesn't turn the ball over in streaks, he will be fine
Fuck yardage. He saw the field well and orchestrated the offense when on the field with better body language and confidence than he had all season. Throws were there, he was in rhythm. It's windy as fuck and frigid cold. Let's pass 29 times.
I agree you (except throwing 29 times). He made some really nice throws, into tight coverage, and most importantly they were all SAFE throws (except for that one that was straight to the defender, but that's going to happen to every QB once per game...). He's learning how to protect the ball and that's what we need him to do before he gets more action. I was highly impressed with Sanchez, dude didn't throw far, but he did what he had to do and won the game. BTW I feel like Sanchez is going to handle the playoff pressure just fine. He seems like a player who thrives in must win situations.
People get too hung up in stats like yards and such. Last night, Sanchez not only had to defeat the Bengals, he had to face for the first time in his life, NE Winter Football and he defeated both. It would have been stupid for BS to go pass heavy in that wind. Especially with a young QB not used to playing in it. To his credit, he had Sanchez pass only when he wanted to back off the Bengal DLine just a bit to open up some room for Jones and Greene. What is the recepie for winning in January? Run-heavy offense and a stout D? The Jets are built to do exactly that. Fck the stats, Sanchez cleared a huge hurdle last night. He played mistake free in a pressure filled, nationally televised game. He showed up, played well and won. I'm not sure why people would want more than that...
BS played the type of game that the Jets needed from their QB last night, and that is to his credit. I had some serious doubts at various times this season that he was learning how to win, but the last two games I think he is showing that. Avoiding turnovers in both those games is also a huge turnaround from just the Atlanta game, so I am encouraged.
I don't think the gameplan has to change a whole lot for this Saturday............because it will be outdoors, just as cold as last night or colder, and the wind will be a bit less. I think where Sanchez will have to open up a bit is if we get to any indoor games or warmer climate games where weather is not that much of a factor.
It really is since Rex said i am taking some Offensive duties away. It made Schotty become way more conservative and then with that they saw how successful this team can be if they dont turn the ball away.
Not for nothing guys but in their must win game, Flacco threw for just 102 yards. The ground game and defense is what won the game for Baltimore and they weren't playing in artic temperatures. A quarterback's job is to win games. And while he hasn't thrown the ball all over the field, I think a rookie QB winning 5 of the final 6 games after losing 6 of the previous 7 constitutes progress.
Absolutely agree. Kudos to him and the team for making the playoffs - way past my expectations at least. However, we didn't pay 50 million for a QB to not lose games for us; we paid him to win games for us. He is going to have to do that sooner or later. The "he's just a rookie" stuff end after this playoff run - we will find out next year if we pinned our hopes on the right guy. I hope the flashes he has shown fully blossom. His perfomance and behavior have opened up a lot of doubt - starting next September, in a new stadium and a playoff run under his belt, he gets to erase it. Here's hoping he can.
Can someone please tell me what was going on with that play? 1.Edwards looked like he was waiting to throw a block, not catch a pass. Either that or he was trying to put a (horribly delayed) move on the CB (Hall?) and didn't get the signal or make a read to break his route off as the hot route. 2. Why the fuck are we throwing flanker screens to Braylon Edwards. He's the biggest WR on the roster with great straight line speed but he lacks elite lateral movement as a ball carrier. He is the exact opposite of the WR to who we should be throwing screens(Cotchery, Woodhead(HA!). He's more suited to block for screens than catch them.
I think this is inaccurate. I think the real situation is that at some point in the playoffs the Jets are going to need a play out of Sanchez and he's as likely to throw it to the other team as he is to his teammate. That's a rookie QB at work. I think he has a much better chance of actually forcing a throw through to his teammate than Chad did. Much better. The price is that he will likely end the season for us on an Int in the process of trying.
Citing the stats he had last night is ridiculous and absurd. He made some nice throws and was accurate. Hit a couple of nice slant passes and then a nice out pattern and both of those kept drives going. You can see his accuracy improving and his decision making is improving over the last few weeks because they are keeping him out of obvious throwing situations. He did enough to keep the defense honest. Ask him to wing it around the field and and that is when he will get into trouble.
This. Plus he executed some great looking fakes on play action. I was more than happy with the the playcalling and Sanchez's play.
in the last 3-4 games some of the most basic throws an NFL qb has to make have appeared to be smoother and easier for him to execute..... hopefully thats the start of the foundation that gets him into the upper echelon of QB's. jil
If you are talking about that long almost-TD-pass, I don't necessarily agree. That was a downwind throw and the ball may have sailed a little bit and caused BE's timing to appear a little off. I know he has a habit of doing this, but in this case it is hard to say it was all him.
Braylon was falling from his jump when the ball hit him in the hands... It was a mistimed jump, maybe the wind caused it, but it was still mistimed.
and when you are a WR who towers over everyone on the field, you can't mistime TD receptions like that one. That was awful.
